LORD KITCHENER AND THE VOLUNTERS—SCENES DURING THE MANOEUVRES. The volunteer manoeuvres in connection with Lord Kitchener’s visit to Auckland commenced at an early hour on Wednesday morning, and comprised tactical exercises over a large of country having at its four corners Ellerslie Racecourse, Mt. Wellington. Otahuhu and Mt. Smart. The enemy was under the command of Major W It Bloomfield and the defending forces under Lieutenant-Colonel Wolfe. Lord Kitchener, who was accompanied by Sir Joseph Ward and Colonel Kirkpatrick, took up positions on various eminences from which the operator were viewed. (1) One of the “A” Battery guns in action. (2) Lord Kitchener mounting his charger, at commencement of the operations. (3) Field artillery and cyclists on the march. (4) Laying the field telephone wires. (5) Artillery officers finding the range and angles Iring. (6) The Field-Marshal and the veterans. (7) Field artillery. (8) A signalling party.
