~ Feb. 25th. Tennis and Croquet. The weather is still very hot, and even
the keenest of our tennis and croquet players have become lazy. There were a fair number on the erocpiet lawns on Saturday, when afternoon tea was given by Mrs. James Watt and Mrs. Stone. Amongst those present were Mr. and' Mrs. Goodwin, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon. Mr. Sargeant, Mrs. Imlay Saunders, Mr. Richie. Mrs. Harper, Mrs. R. Jacksan, Mrs. O. Lewis, Mrs. Stevenson, MissGresson, Mrs. Moore, Mrs. Lomax, Mrs. Greenwood, Miss Browne, Miss Knapp, Mrs. Howarth. Mrs. James Watt, and others.
At the Carepbell-street tenuis courts, on Saturday afternoon, tea was provided bv Miss VV. Anderson and Miss Cave. Amongst those present were: Mr. and Mrs Izard. Miss Moore. Miss Christie. Miss D. Brettargh, Miss Wilford, Miss AnderD. Brettargh, Miss Wilford, Miss Anderson, Miss Hawken. Mrs. Christie. Miss Brettargh, Miss Harper. Mrs. Harold, and others.
The Scarlet Troubadours played to excellent houses for three nights this week. Amongst those present I noticed Mrs. Mason, Mr. and Mrs. Lambert, Miss Mason, Mrs. Saunderson, Miss Brettargh, Miss D. Brettargh. Mr. and Mrs. Imlay Saunders, Mrs. Christie, Miss Christie, Mrs. aud Miss Anderson. Mrs. €. Wilson, Mrs. K. Chamberlain, Mrs. H. Sargeant, Miss Moore. Garden Party.
The day was perfect for Mr. and Mrs. W. Birches’ garden party at Morton on Thursday. A large number went from Wanganui, some by motor car, others by train. Amongst them were: Mr. and Mrs. A. Izard, Mr. and Mrs. Good, Mrs. Montgomerie, Miss C. Anderson, Mrs. Gifford Marshall, Rev. and Mrs. Doyle, Mr. Neame, Mrs. and Miss Mason. Mr. and Mrs. Hole, Miss Moore, Miss H. Anderson, and others. Personal.
Mrs. Cooper, of Kukuta, Wanganui, is staying in Rotorua. Mrs. McNaughton Christie, of Wanganui. is spending a short holiday in Wellington.
Miss Itla Stevenson, of Wanganui, is slaying in Taihape with relations. Mrs. Speneer Peel, of Wanganui, left last week for a visit to Rotorua. Mrs. D’Arcy, of Wanganui. Las returned from her visit to relations in Gisborne. Mrs. Collins, of Fiji, is staying in Wanganui with relations. Mrs. Heaney, of Wanganui, has returned from her visit to relations in the Auckland district. Mrs. Rochfon, of Eltham. is staying in Wanganui with Mrs. A. Lewis.
