The Death of Dr. George Michael Lenihan, Fifth Roman Catholic Bishop of Auckland.
THE SPLENDID MONUMENT WHICH COVERS HIS GRAVE. ST. PATRICK’S, THE FINE ROMAN CATHOLIC CATHEDRAL, COMPLETED THROI GH THE STRENUOUS EFFORTS OF THE LATE BISHOP. One of the many works in which Bishop Leuihan was most interested was the completion and beautification of St. Patrick's Cathedral, and February, 11108, saw It completed and opened by Cardinal Moran. Tile whole of the beautiful Interior design was Bishop Iwnihan's Idea, and carried out according to his instructions. In his last pastoral, issued tills month, lie stated: "I am glad to think the parishioners take such pride In their cathedral, and that it compels the admiration of visitors. As Auckland progresses, however, large stores and warehouses will surround the Cathedral, atid in course of time a new site and new Cathedral will be required, but the present Cathedral will alway.- Ge a useful church for the port, and will satisfy th.. luinllg l-Litol.g l.v tf.iln „|.
