January 28. Tennis. Despite the heat and general sultriness of the weather here, tennis is most enthusiastically engaging the attention of th? members of both local clubs. Whataupoko and Kaiti. In the former club the tournaments of combined doubles stand at a semi-final, when Miss N. Davis and Mrs Fenwick meet Miss Ensor and Mr G. B. Smith, the result of which I hope to give you next week. Over forty members of the club took part in this tournament. Tn the tournament at the Kaiti Court, the winning teams, so far. are Miss Murray and Mr Seheirning. Miss Reynolds and Mrs Evans, Miss Coleman and Mr W. Coleman. Tn the Ladies’ Singles Mrs Cover. Miss Coleman, Miss McCredie, Mrs Maude, Miss M. Davis, Miss Reynolds. Miss H. Sherratt are amongst the victorious ones. Tn the B Grade. Men’s Doubles. Mr S. Coleman beat Mr Bennett. Men’s Singles brings Messrs Sheppard, Evans, Barlow, Margoliouth, ami Bourke to the winning side. Personal. Mr Cecil King, on leaving the local staff of the Union Bank last week to take up a position as purser on the schooner Kaeo. was presented by the manager, on behalf of the staff, with a handsome set of pipes. Mr King left for Auckland on Wednesday last. Mr H. B. Williams, "Turehau,” left fpr Napier on Wednesday. Miss Wallis (Gisborne) returned from Hawke’s Bay last Wednesday morning. Mr and Mrs W. D.
