ATHLETICS.
Caledonian Sports. The Wanganui Caledonian Society held its 27th annual sports meeting on Saturday. The weather was gloriously fine, and the attendance constituted a" record. The Highland events were more prominent than txsual, competitors coming from all parts of New Zealand. Points prizes were won as follows : —Piping. Finlayson; dancing, J. tMeKecbnie; junior dancing, R. McNiven. The local men won most of the running •nd pedestrian events. McFadyen, McI»oweli, and Sutherland tied in tossing the caber. McDowell won in throwing tne hammer, and McFadyen putting the shot. <?. IJng won the Cunrberland style of wrestling, and Carling the ca tch-as-catch-ran The society’s membership now totals 400. an increase of 2<X> during the past two years.
