January 13. Croquet and Tennis. As a number are still away holidaymaking, the attendance at the croquet and lenis courts are not large. Afternoon tea on Saturday at croquet was given by Mrs. Barnott and Miss Burgess. Amongst those present were: Mr. and Mrs. Gordon, Mrs. Paterson, Mrs. R. Jackson, Mrs. Lomax, Mrs. Stewart, Mrs. Stone, Mrs. Harper, Miss Gresson (Christchurch), Mrs. Innes, and others. On Friday afternoon the finals for Mrs. Pharazyn’s prize for class A was played between Mrs. Imlay Saunders and Mrs. H. Sarjeant, the former being victorious. Afternoon tea on Saturday at the Campbell-street tennis courts was provided by Misses Dymock and Harper. Amongst those present were: Mr. and Mrs. Gouville Saunders, Dr. and Mrs. Christie, Mrs. ]’. Krull, Miss Jones, Miss Cave, Misses Hawkea (52), Miss S. Dymock, and other*.
Launch Picnic. Mrs. H. Sarjeant gave a very enjoyable picnic in an oil launch to the South Spit this week, in honor of Miss Marjorie Whitton, of Oamaru, who is staying with her. Amongst those present were Misses Gave, Moore, Brettargh, Christie, Williams. Fairburn, Jones, Whitton, Anderson, Nixon, and others. Last week a very jolly picnic was held at Kai Iwi beach, the party driving out in a four-in-hand. Amongst those present were Mrs. and Misses Brettargh (2), Mrs. and Miss Spenser, Rev. and Mrs. Jacob, and others. Personal. Miss Ida Stevenson and Mr. R. Stevenson, of Wanganui, are staying in New Plymouth. Mrs. Montgomerie, of Wanganui, is staying in Rotorua and Auckland. Airs. H. Bayley, of Wanganui, is visiting relations in Auckland. Mrs. Lanee Steedman, of Palmerston North, is staying in Wanganui with her mother, Mrs. H. F. Christie. Miss O’Brien, of Wanganui, has gone to Rotorua with Miss Brabant, of Napier. Miss D. Christie, of Wanganui, is staying at the Point Canterbury with Mrs. Phillips. Mrs. Menlove, of Canterbury, is spending some weeks in Wanganui. The Rev. H. and Mrs. Dove, of Wanganui, are staying at Mohanga, with Mr. and Mrs. Battely. Mr. and Airs. Alackay, of Wanganui, are staying in Napier. Air. A. Izard, of Wanganui, has returned from his visit bo relations in Christchurch. Airs. Imlay Saunders, of Wanganui, left this week for Auckland, where she meets her husband, who has just returned from a visit to England. Aliss Grant is staying in Wanganui with Airs. H. Sarjeant’. Aliss K. Gresson, of Christchurch, is staying in Wanganui with Airs. S. Gordon. Airs. G. Potts, of Palmerston North, has been staying in Wanganui. The Misses AleLeod, of Wellington, who have been staying in Wanganui with Aliss Cameron, have returned to their home. Airs.
