Michael Angelo Buouarotti, born in 1475, in Chinsi, Italy, was, with Hie possible exception of the great Greek Phidias, the greatest sculptor Hie world inis seen. He worked chiefly in Rome and Florence, where his greatest works are still to lie seen. Professor Schaper belongs to 'Ilie modern school of German sculpture that in recent years has been coming to the fore. The above work was first exhibited In Berlin in ltX)7.
