NAPIER.

November 27. Flower Show. A most successful show of summer flowers was held in St. Augustine’s Schoolroom on Wednesday and Thursday last, the principal exhibits being roses, carnations, and sweet pea.-. The show was promoted and organised by Canon Tuke, and as the season has been particularly propitious for horticultural pursuits, great interest was evinced. Several ladies had shows of beautiful roses for exhibition only, amongst them being Airs. J. H. Coleman, Mrs. T. H. Lowry, Airs. R. D. D. AlcLean, Mrs. F. H. Williams, Airs. North, Airs. Hindmarsh, Airs. P. S. McLean. Miss Tuke conducted the sweets stall, and Mr-. Collins and members of the Women’s Guild superintended afternoon tea. There were very artistically deeorated mantelpieces and tables, of which Mrs. Levin acted' as judge. The show was well patronised on each day, a great number of the visitors being ladies. There were some very prettyfrocks worn, which were seen to advantage in the beautifully decorated hall. I noticed: Mrs. Troutbeck, handsome white silk gown, toque with mole trimmings; Mrs. Hector Smith, dainty white gown, violet hat ; Aliss Sutton, becoming brown frock, hat to match; Aliss C. Sutton, smart nattier blue, with ehie hat; Aliss Hughes, black gown and hat; Miss Rutherford, dainty white muslin frock, picture hat; Airs. A. Brown, gown of brown silk taffeta, relieved with guipure, brown hat; Mrs. Balfour, navy blue costume, smart hat ; Airs. Beecham, very smart black and white gown, hat en suite; Airs. McLernon, navy blue gown and floral trimmed hat; Airs. W. J. Gaddis, dainty white embroidered frock, becoming hat in pastel shades; Aliss Williams (Hukarere), black eiik gown, smart little bonnet; Airs. C. AleLean, black voile gown, large picture hat; Mrs. Rutherford wore all biaek; Ali-s. Beamish, sen., handsome black silk gown, bonnet with roses; Mrs. P. S. McLean wore a very emart Paris gown

and stylish hat; Mrs. Take, black silk gown, becoming hat; Mrs. R. D. D. McLean, brown silk gown toned with pink, brown hat; Miss Constance Mcla'an, dainty white froek with viol.it sash, becoming picture hat with roses; Miss May Hunter, striped costume of violet ami white linen, hat to match; Mrs. 11. Lowry, champagne ninon gown, and becoming picture hat trimmed with same tone; Miss Swinburne, becoming white frock and white hat; Mrs. Barcroft, stylish gown of sage green, hat to match; Mrs. Henley, smart white frock, large black hat with ostrich plumes; Mrs. Murton, saxe blue costume, black toque with pink roses. Personal. There is io lie quite an exodus of musical talent from Napier shortly. Mr. Harold Bregson, organist of the Cathedral, has decided to reside in America. Mr. and Mrs. Gregson leave about March next, and intend travelling in England and on the Continent for some time. Mr. Sydney Hoben is leaving for Home shortly, and Miss Florence Williams (Mus. Bae.) leaves for Europe in February. Miss Mary McLean, who is to be accompanied on her trip by Miss N. Heath, goes to London for twelve months. The Misses Cottrell and Neilson have returned from an enjoyable trip to the Old Country. Miss Glendining, of “Waihua,” is leaving for England early in the New Year. Mrs. Reid, of VVaipawai is visiting relatives in Napier.
