September 30. Bridge. A very enjoyable “bridge afternoon” ■was given by Mrs. George Watts (Marlborough; on Monday at the “Ha crema i” tea-rooms. Mrs. Watts re-

ceived her guests in a becoming costume of pale floral voile over pink glace. Some of the players were: Mrs. Renwick, Mrs. Coote, Mrs. J. Sharp, Mrs. Harris, Mrs. Booth, Mrs. Dodson, Mrs. E. J. Allen, Mrs. Harrison, Mrs. Bunny, Mrs. A. Airey, Miss Gilkison, Miss StuartForbes. The successful prizewinners were Mrs. Coote and Mrs. Blundell.

Another afternoon bridge party was given by Mrs. Renwick at “Newstead.” Among others present were: Mrs. G. Watts (Blenheim), Mrs. Airey, Mrs. Barr, Mrs. S. Gibbs, Mrs. Booth, Misses Ledger, Mrs. Allen, Miss Richmond, Mrs. Harris, Miss Roberts, Mrs. Sharp, Mrs. Sclanders, Mrs. Kissling, Mrs. Harrison, Mrs. Dodson, Mrs. Coote, Mrs. Blundell. Afternoon Tea.

A very pleasant “afternoon-tea” was given by Miss H. Blundell, for her guest, Miss Monroe, of Palmerston North. Mrs. Blundell wore a handsome black chiffon taffeta with white laee; Miss Blundell, pretty dress of white lace and voile; Miss Monroe, white net, cream silk skirt; Miss Richmond, black and white tweed; Miss Sealy, navy coat and skirt, becoming black hat. There were also present: Misses Selanders, F. Edwards, Blackett, Booth* Cock, Ledger, de Castro, Douglas, Houlker, Glasgow, Maginity, Webb, Gilkison, Clark (2), Clendenen, Trolove. A Successful Concert.

A very successful concert was given by the Nelson Harmonic Society. Cole-ridge-Taylor's “Hiawatha” was performed, and the soloists, Mrs. Wright, Mir. de Looze (tenor) and Mr. H. Kidson (bass) all acquitted themselves ■well. Mrs. Richmond Fell was the leader of the orchestra, and Miss Earl pianiste. In the audience I noticed: Mrs. and Miss Mules, Mrs. C. Y. Fell, Misses Ledger, Mrs. W. S. Lucas, Miss Richmond, Mrs. and the Misses Maginity, Mrs. Glasgow, Mrs. Arthur Atkinson, Miss Atkinson, Mrs. and Miss Gibbs, Miss Cuthbertson, Mrs. Hayes, Mrs. Moore, Mrs. and the Misses Cock, Mrs. de Looze, Miss Booth, Miss Leggatt,

Personal. Mrs. Renwick has returned from Blenheim. Miss Tolmie has arrived from England. Mrs. B. C. Haggitt (Dunedin) is the guest of Miss Tolmie. Mr. and Mrs. George Watts (Marlborough) are spending some weeks in Nelson. Mrs. Hamilton Smith has returned to Melbourne. Dr. and Mrs. J. M. Bell have arrived in Nelson. Mrs. H. O. Ledger is in Wellington. Mr. Cecil Heaps has gone back to Perth. Mr. and Mrs. S. Tomlinson have returned to Napier. 'Miss Dorothy Pollen is the guest of Mrs. Hunter-Brown. Mrs. F. Richmond and Miss Richmond are away in Blenheim.
