September 30. The Rowing Club. The Wanganui Rowing dub held a most successful bazaar in the Drill Hall, lasting all the week. For many months a large committee of ladies have been busily employed making all kinds of useful and dainty fancy work for the various stalls. Many fascinating articles were also imported from India and Japan. The Drill Hall was quite transformed. and looked very picturesque with its stalls and al! the assistants dressed in styles of the Tudor period. Amongst those present were: Mrs. E. Riddiford I Wellington*, Mrs. Bamieoat, Mrs. D’Arey. Mrs. Wall, Mrs. J. P. Watt, Mrs. A. Lewis. Mrs. Sargeant. Mrs. H. Speed, Miss Gould (Otago!. Miss Brettargb. Miss Stevenson. Mrs. Harrison, Miss Jardine. Miss Harrison. Mrs. Greenwood. Mrs. Hughes-Johnston. Mrs. Hope Gibbons. Miss Gibbons. Mrs. Mackay. Mrs. Allison. Mrs. Morton Jon s. Miss p Jones, and many others. The Races. The Wanganui spring race meeting had lovely weather for the second day’s racing on Saturday. The attendance was good, anj the racing excellent. Amongst the smart frocks I noticed: Mrs. W. Pharazyn (Wairarapa), smart navy serge eoat and skirt, the eoat being slashed and edged with black silk military braid, blue straw hat with white chiffon rosette, and waving osprey at the side; Mrs. Levin (Rangitikei), navy blue tailor-made coat and skirt, scone marten stole and muff, small straw hat with kilted electric blue ribbon on it: Miss Brandon , Wellington), brown and green striped tweed eoat and skirt, eream vest, fine straw hat with green ami brown crepe de chine swathed round it; Mrs. C. Russell Nukumara), brown striped tweed eoat and skirt, eream vest, pretty brown silk hat with green, crimson, and brown flecked wings in it; Miss Russel! Wilson wore a pale grey tweed eoat and skirt, cream vest, large cream hat with saxe blue and cream wings in it; Miss M. Harrison, green striped tweed coat and skirt, becoming hat with green wings and ribbons; Mrs. A. Lewis, reseda green frieze coat and skirt-, eream silk vest, black hat with ehiffon and wide black wings; Mrs. Hole, pdle grey tweed coat and skirt, with electric blue stripe in it. white silk blouse, small straw hat with electric blue velvet round : t. edged top and bottom with wreath of daisies; Mrs. Harold, smart pale grey coat and skirt, vest of net and -ace, black straw hat with chiffon and wreaths at intervals of tiny pink roses; Mrs. Cholmeley, navy blue hopsack coat and skirt, cream vest, black straw hat with touch of white in it and quill at the side; Mrs. Fairburn, pale green eoat and skirt, lace vest and

Speed, wine-coloured tweed coat and skirt, vest of cream net and lace, eream straw hat with bla<k ostrich tips at the side: Mrs. Peel, electric-blue crepe de chine, made in Direetoire style with tueked net vest and under sleeves, eream straw hat with chiffon and cream plumes; Mrs. Janies Watt wore a striking gow n of old rose eioth. the skirt was made with a tight-fitting basque effect, with vandykes to the knees and threaded with wide velvet in a darker o}d rose shade, and accordion-pleated to the foot, pinafore bodice finished with gold and cream ornaments, vest of cream net an-J motifs. large tine c.eam straw hat with old rose feathers; Mrs. Earle, pale grey striped tweed coat and skirt, large black hat with white feathers; Mrs. Gill Carey wore a very becoming saxe blue tweed coat and skirt, the skirt was finelykilted white embroidery vest, large saxe blue stra.v hat slightly .turned up at one side with wreath of roses and foliage in the same tones; Mrs. Good, navy blue Direetoire coat and skirt with re vers of old rose velvet, and touch of gold, navy blue straw bat with chiffon swathed round it. and wreath of pink roses and foliage: Mrs. D’Arcy, greenish blue cloth coat and skirt with military brakl. black hat with plumes; Miss A. Cowper wore a very becoming cream serge Direetoire gown with touch of gold on it, Wack hat with ostrich plumes: Miss N. Cowper, brown linen coat and skirt, brown hat with wreath of beautiful velvet wall flowers; Mri R. Jackson, black ninon gown with wide bands of black silk insertion sewing, a pale heliotrope silk under-slip, cream net and lace vest, smart beehive toque, the crown composed of heliotrope silk with wreath of heliotrope-toned roses and feathers the same shade at the side; Mrs. Russel! New Plymouth),

black cloth coat and skirt, black hat with rosettes; Miss Standard, grey tweed costume, cream hat with cream corded rilk on it, and black and white wings; Mrs. H. Jackson, pale blue and cream atriped ninon frock made in Empire style with tucked net vest and tinder-sleeves, pale blue crinoline straw hat with roses at the side; Mrs. Barnicoat, navy blue serge coat and skirt, cream vest, cream straw toque with jet O'naments along the brim, and black tving at the side.

Personal. Mrs. Hole (of Wanganui) has returnid from her visit to Wellington. Mrs. E. Riddiford (of Wellington), «ho has Isen staying in Wanganui with (Mrs. Barnieoat, has returned to the iEmpire City. Mrs. A. Izard (of Wanganui) lias reburned from her visit to Wellington. Amongst visitors in Wanganui for ihe Spring Race Meeting were: Mr. ■nd Mrs. Levin (Rangitikei), Mrs. Gorton and Miss Levett (Bulls), Miss Mlrandon (Wellington), Mrs. Holmes jfWairarapa), Mr. Aidworth (Silverbope), Mr. and Mrs. A.
