INTERESTING RELICS OF OLD AUCKLAND. The quaint looking building on the right is the old Mechanics’ Institute, which is to be demolished in a week or two, after an existence of over 60 years. For many years the front portion was used as a public hall, and the library attached to the Institute was given to the City as a nucleus to the present Free Public Library. The building on the left, now occupied by the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, was formerly the municipal offices, but that dignity was lost about ’85, when the staff removed to its present quarters.
