CAMBRIDGE

September 18. Season for Bazaars. There has been a dearth of social events since the Hunt Club festivities. Bazaars seem to be the order of the day. Last Friday and Saturday the Presbyterians held a most successful daffodil show and sale of work, which was opened by the Mayor (Mr. Buckland). Mrs. Gow was in charge of the fancy work stall, Mrs. H. Ferguson the plain work, Mrs. Taylor the afternoon tea, Mrs. Earl the plain and fancy stall of the Bible class girls, Misses Watts the produce stall. The takings were considerably over £lOO for the two days, which must have been very gratifying to the promoters. The annual fancy fair and art union of St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church was opened at the Alexandra Hall on Tuesday evening. At the request of the Rev. Father W. H. Murphy, the Mayor (Mr. W. F. Buckland) performed the opening ceremony. The stallholders are as follows: —Fancy work No. 1, Mrs. MeVeagh and daughters; fancy work No. 2, Mrs. Dougherty and the Misses Gleeson: plain work, Mrs. Hair and Mrs. A. Wilkinson: lollie stall, Misses Swayne; toy stall, bran tub, and fish pond. Misses Pleseher; refreshment room, Mrs. Lundon, assisted by the Misses Hill, Lundon, and Gardner, and Mesdames Beale and Bateman.

Personal. Mrs. Dr. Roberts is staying in Hamilton with Dr. and Mrs. Douglas for a few days. Mrs. A. J. Edmunds, who has been staying with Mrs. Taylor, of “Bardowie,” and Mrs. W. A. Scott, of “Palenque,” returned to Auckland on Tuesday. Mrs. James Hally is at present in Auckland staying with her daughter, Mrs. C. Stewart, of Epsom. Mrs. Lyons-Montgomery, of Te Aroha, is the guest of Archdeacon and Mrs. Willis at the vicarage. Mrs. A. H. Nicoll is at present in Auckland staying with her sister, Mrs. A. B. Herrold, of Remuera. Miss Cave, of the “Anchorage,” Cambridge, has gone to Papakura to see Mr. and Mrs. E. Cave, who are on the eve of leaving for a trip to England. Miss Runciman has been staying in Cambridge with her sister, Mrs. Young, of “Linton.” Miss Ivy Ruddock, who has been visiting Mr. and Mrs. Ross, of “Bruntwood,” for some time, has returned to Auckland. Mr. and Mrs. Hammond, of the Bank of New Zealand, who have been away for a month’s holiday, returned last week after having had a most enjoyable time.
