September 3. A Musical Afternoon. A musical afternoon was given on Thursday by Mrs. Haslam, at Riccarton. The hostess, who received her guests in the hall, was wearing a gown of mauve silk, relieved with white lace; Mrs. Barclay, black costume and black hat with ostrich plumes. Amongst the guests were: Mrs. J. Cracroft Wilson, Mrs. Teschemaker, Mrs. Hill, Mrs. George Harper, Mrs. Denniston, Mrs. Crooke, Miss Pugh, Mrs. Morton, Mrs. Carrington, Mr. and Mrs. Corfe, Mr. and Mrs. BevanBrown, and Mr. Harkness. Afterwards a dainty tea was served in the diningroom, where the tables were gay with spring flowers.

Old Boys’ Dance. The annual dance of the High School Old Boys’ Association was held last night (Thursday, September 2nd), at the Art Gallery, in Armagh-street. Afternoon Tea. On Thursday an afternoon tea was given by Mrs. Wigram for Miss Mathias, whose marriage to Mr. Vernon takes place next week. Among those present were: Mrs. Vernon, Mrs. Beswiek, and Misses Harley, Pyne (2), Humphreys (2), Symes, Moore (2), Cook (2), M. Anderson, R. Anderson, L. Bowen, llolderness, Gosset and Inman. Personal.

Rev. and Mrs. Moreland (Christ’s College, Christchurch) have gone for a short visit to the North Island. Miss B. Wood (Christchurch) is staying with friends in Wellington. Mrs. and Miss Boyle (Riccarton) aro staying at Waimate. Mrs. Gibson (Timaru) is the guest of Mrs. Morton (Bealey Avenue). Mrs. Stephenson has returned to Christchurch from a visit to Sydney. Mrs. Morton Anderson (Christchurch), has returned from Rotorua.

The Misses Humphreys and Miss Symes have returned to Christchurch from Palmerston North. Mrs. J. S. Thomeon (Christchurch) is visiting Mrs. J. H. Lance at Horsley Downs. Dr. and Mrs. Fox and family have returned to Christchurch from England. Miss Bennett (Christchurch) has returned from Wellington. Mrs. Frank Cowlishaw and family and Mrs. G. Turnbull and family Christchurch) are spending a few weeks at Sumner. Mr. and Mrs. George Hanmer (Christchurch) have returned from the Islands

trip.
