July 15. Bridge Parties. A series of bridge parties has made the last week a very gay one. On Friday Mr. and Mrs. Barelayt-Harrison gave a very enjoyable party for Captain and Mrs. Hall, when Mrs. Bunny carried oft' the first prize. Mrs. Harrison wore a pretty dress of blaek taffeta, with lace and sequin insertion; Mrs. Hall wore a handsome blouse of white lace, silk skirt. Others present were:— Mesdames Coote, Dodson, Blundell, Burnes, Price, Bunny, Allen, Booth. Misses Ledger, Richmond, Captain Hall, Dr. Barr, Messrs. Harrison, Coote, Allen, de Castro. Another bridge evening for Captain and Mrs. Hall was given by Mrs. E. J. Allen. Some of the players were: Captain and Mrs. Hall, the Misses Ledger (2), Mr. Ledger, Mr. Allen, Mrs. Booth, Mr. and Mrs. Blundell, Mrs. Bunny, Miss Richmond, Mr. and Mrs. Harrison, and Miss Gibbs. Mr. Harrison won the first prize. Progressive Bridge.
Mrs. Sidney Gibbs gave a large “progressive bridge” party on Saturday. A dainty supper was served in the diningroom, when play was over. Miss Gilkinson won the prize, a handsome satin cushion-cover. The other prizes were won by Mrs. Bunny and Miss Maginity. Mrs. Gibbs wore a pretty gown of black silk net, relieved with pale blue; Mrs. Hamilton-Smith, a handsome gown of black taffeta, with bands of black velvet; Mrs. Renwick, black silk; Mrs. Booth, handsome dress of cinnamon brown satin with sequins; Mrs. Dodson, pretty costume of pink floral silk; Mrs. de Castro, white voile; Mrs. Hall, white eilk, with bands of dyed lace in blue design; Miss Gibbs, black silk with cream lace; Mrs. Allen, white silk; Miss Richmond, cream taffeta Empire gown; Mrs. Harrison, black silk with sequin embroidery; Miss Ledger, Empire dress of saxe blue messaline; Mrs. Burnes, white taffeta with lace; Miss Menlove (Dunedin),.pink taffeta; .Miss Maginity, Empire dress of pale green muslin; Mrs. Hoby, pale green net over glace' Miss Harkness, black satin with insertions of Paris lace; Mrs. Coote, handsome dress of black sequined net, with long scarf of scarlet chiffon; Miss Gilkiaon, black velvet; Miss E. Gilkison, Empire
gown of red silk; Mrs. Bunny, black and white striped silk;- Miss Roberts, pink taffeta. Children's Party. Mrs. Lemmer gave a large juvenile party on Saturday in the “School of Music,” when there were over a hundred children invited. Some of the ladies who helped to amuse the children were;. Mesdames Cock, Nicholson, Wright, Parker, Misses Earl, Kempthorne, Cock, Flett, and Nicholson. Personal. Dr. Pollen has returned to Wellington. Miss J. Pitt is visiting Nelson. Miss Menlove (Oamaru) is staying with Mrs. Burns. Mr. Levien (Napier) is in Nelson. Misses E. and M. Fell (Wellington) • visitins' Mrs. C. Y. Fell.
