CAMBRIDGE.

July 10. On Friday evening Miss Gwynneth. of “The Bungalow,” entertained a few friends at progressive bridge. Miss Cave was the winner of the lady’s prize, and Mr Mervyn Wells the winner of the gentleman’s prize. At the end of the last round each guest was provided with paper and pencil and asked to make a sketch of their partner. Some of the sketches were very funny, and caused an immense amount of amusement. Every one agreed that Mrs B. Conper’s was the best, for which she was awarded a prize. The drawing-room was decorated with bowls of pale pink camellias with rose foliage, also tea roses and daphne. The hostess was wearing heliotrope silk blouse, with creme tucked net vest and sleeves, and black silk skirt; Mrs B. Couper, white silk and lace blouse, black crepe de chine skirt over glace; Mrs Dr. Roberts, white and reseda green striped chiffon taffeta, made in semi-Empire style, with yoke of silk gauze embroidered and finished with white chiffon and lovely lace; Mrs A. H. Nicol 1, nattier blue ninon de soie, with yoke of white tucked net, and finished with silk embroidered insertion, and sleeves of white tucked net; Miss Cave, green and white striped silk blouse much tucked, and black silk skirt; Miss Wells, black chiffon taffeta, with yoke and bretelles of white Ceylon laee; Miss Willis, pale blue silk blouse, with yoke and sleeves of white lace, and black silk skirt. The men were Dr. Roberts, Messrs Nicoll, M. Wells, Mcßride, Lewis, Hindmarsh, and A. B. Herrold. Golf.

There was a large gathering at golf on Mednessiay, when the mixed foursomes were started. They are to be completed •a Saturday. So far Miss Gwen Roberta

and Mr D. V. Anderson tied with Miss Pearl Ferguson and Mr E. J. Wilkinson; Miss Hilda Wells and Dr. Roberts were only one stroke behind. The keenest interest is being taken in the matches. Mrs Dr. Roberts and Miss Willis provided the afternoon tea. Mrs P. Cleary, of Te Aroha, who is staying here at present, was out having a game. An At Home.” On Tuesday afternoon Mrs Wells, of “Oakleigh,” gave an afternoon tea for Dr. and Mrs Hooper, who were staying with her. The room was gay with roses and paper white narcissi. Mrs Wells was wearing black silk, with white laee vest; Miss Wells, white silk blouse and black chiffon taffeta; Miss H. Wells, black chiffon taffeta frock, with tucked white net yoke and sleeves; Mrs Hooper, rich soft black silk, with white lace vest with medallions of black lace on it; Mrs Braithwaite, blaek costume, and bonnet en suite; Miss O’Halloran, grey coat and skirt, and black hat; Mrs Brookes, striped tweed coat and skirt, black bonnet with white ospreys; Mrs Hammond, green cloth costume, trimmed with velvet the same shade, and green hat trimmed with green silk and green quills; Mrs. Dr. Roberts, green costume, trimmed with creme filet net, brown velvet hat trimmed with brown tulle and feathers, and Russian sable furs; Mrs Chitty, navy blue costume, trimmed with navy and white guimpe. and bonnet to match; Miss Brooks, dark blue tailormade coat and skirt, and brown hat trimmed with brown silk; Miss Gwynneth, striped tweed tailor-made coat and skirt, green felt toque trimmed with green silk and dark red quills; Miss K. Willis, white embroidered flannel blouse, dark blue cloth skirt, and brown felt hat trimmed with brown silk. PERSONAL. Mrs. Cleary, wife of the Rev. P. Cleary, of Te Aroha, and her mother, Mrs Torrenee, are staying at the Masonic Hotel for a few days. Miss C. Willis is up from Auckland staying with her parents in Cambridge

for a few days.
