Amateur Athletics. The Council of the Amateur Athletie Association has decided to institute a cross-country championship over a distance of five miles for individuals and teams, the latter to be of five members, e.nd four to count. The championship will be offered this year to Canterbury, to be run at Timaru in August. It. wad decided to ask every centre to contribute £l5 to the expenses of a team of not less than six men to represent New Zealand at the Australasian championship ’in Brisbane.- A balance-sheet was received from the old Christchurch Council, showing a credit of £l6 9/5. After hearing Mr. R. Coombes on the subject, a sub-committee was appointed to go into the question of representation at the Olympic games. The Council decided to support a movement to bring R. E. Walker, the South African champion, over, accompanied by another athlete, hurdler, or sprinter.
