Hawera, May 22. Bridge. A bridge party given at Mr. and Mrs. Williamson’s last Wednesday evening was the second of a series to be held every week during the winter months. Some of those present were;—Mr. and Mrs. H. T. Atkinson, Mr. and Mrs. Webster. Mr. and Mrs. Sutton, Mrs. Turnbull, Mrs. Glenn, Mrs. Coutts, Misses 'Williamson, Turnbull, Tomlinson (Nelson). Caplen (2), Glenn (2), .Bayley (Hamilton), Reilly, MeMiebael, Warburton (Wellington), Messrs. Caplen (2), Chalmers, and Glenn. Assembly. The second of Misses Brett and Douglas’ assemblies, held last night in tins Foresters’ Hall, was quite as successful as the first. The supper table was prettily decorated with yellow and white chrysanthemums. Among some of the dresses worn I noticed: Miss Brett, in a dfainty white (embroidered muslin; Miss Douglas, white muslin, the corsage being trimmed with floral ribbon and black velvet; Mrs. Cowern, black silk; Mrs. Turnbull, black merveiileux; Mrs. Webster, black silk, relieved with red flowers; Mrs. Fantham, blaek satin, pink flowers on the corsage; Mrs. H. Livingstone, white silk, relieved with reel flowers; Mi’s. Buchanan, blaek chiffon taffeta, Irish crochet berthe; Mrs. R. McLean, yellow brocade Empire frock; Mrs. O’Callaghan, blaek crepe de chine; Miss Caplen, yellow silk, trimmed with black velvet; Miss Elsie Caplen, pink satin; Miss Turnbull, black silk, red flowers on the corsage; Miss Tomlinson (Nelson), white muslin trimmed with Valenciennes laee and insertion; Miss Carey, pink chiffon taffeta; Miss Coutts, pale blue satin de chine; Miss Glenn, yellow silk Empire frock, with brown velvet trimmings; Miss Q. Glenn, white crepe de chine, the corsage being trimmed with floral chiffon and black velvet; Miss Reilly, black velvet, point lace berthe; Miss Russell, white ninon over glace; Miss McLean, grey striped taffeta, trimmed with emerald green; Miss Koch, cream satin with black velvet trimmings; Miss Jacksen, black silk with white chiffon tucker; Miss White, cream floral taffeta Empire frock; Miss Whitcombe, yellow’ stik, trimmed with black velvet; Miss Ryan, white niuslin trimmed with insertion and laee; Miss Chalmers (Auckland), eream silk muslin, pink band on skirt and pink saish; Miss Alexander, white muslin, blaek sash; Miss Sutton, pale pink silk; Miss Newing, cream net, blue satin band on skirt, and bodice relieved with the same colour; Miss Duckworth, prune-coloured taffeta, with Oriental trimmings; Miss Stringer, pale blue silk, trinamed with laee; Miss M. Winks,f pale green mousseline de soie; Miss Greaves, white muslin. Ptrsenah Miss Chalmers, who has been spending a short holiday in Hawera, has returned to her home in Auckland. Mrs. H. T. Atkinson has gone to Rotorua. Mr. Denniston, of Stratford, has gone for a month’s holiday to Australia, before settling in Auckland to practice his profession as a lawyer. Rev. J. Johnston and family, who have lived in Eltham for five years, left for their new heme in Malvern last week. JOAN.
