March 10. Entertainments. The evenings at the commencement of last week were quite taken up with entertainments. On Monday evening Mr.

and Mrs. Mallinson gave a very successful recital in the Town Hall. This proved a rare treat.' Mr. and Mrs. Mallinson left Blenheim on Wednesday afternoon. Both Tuesday and Wednesday evening there was a good attendance of the public at the Hall, when Messrs. Maskclyne and Devant's mysteries company performed. Some of those 1 noticed at these entertainments were:—Mesdaines Beil, Revell, Clouston, Redwood, Smith, Pentreath, Seot-Smith, Cooper (Wellington), Howard. Northcroft, Townshend, Neville, Griffiths, Misse Rutherford, Neville (3), Anderson. Rogers, Bell, Bull, Whitwell (Nelson), Curry, McDonald, Horne. Tennis. Last Saturday afternoon there was a fair attendance on the Marlborough Lawn Tennis grounds. A dainty tea, provided by Mrs. W. Canavan, was much appreciated. Some of those present were: — Mesdamcs Innes, McCallum, Strachan, Scot-Smith, Clouston, Walker, Orr, Misses Scot-Smith, Harley, Bell. Newton. Harley (Nelson), Neville, Easther. Fulton,, Messrs. Webb, Stace, Davey, Take, Orr, Huhne and Dr. Bennett. Personal Items. Mr. Harold White left on Wednesday for Wellington, en route for Christchurch, where he enters the University. Mr. White has passed his matriculation and solicitor’s general knowledge examinations, and will now study for his degree. On Thursday evening last the members of the Kiwi Hockey Club presented Mr. T. Hcffer with a handsome set of brushes.

Mr. Ifeffer will be much missed here by members of both hockey clubs. Mr. B. A. Moore (accountant of the local branch of the Bank of New Zealand) has been made a Fellow of the New Zealand Institute of Accountants. Mr. H. Travers, botanist, of Wellington, who visited Mr. Tapaenukai, Upper Awatere, brought back a variety of botanical and geological specimens. Miss M. Whitwell, Nelson, is visiting Mr. and Mrs. R. Bell, at “ Riverlands.” Mr. B. A. Moore is away visiting friends in the North Island. Mrs. Neville and Mrs. Cooper (Wellington), are visiting Mr. and Mrs. W. Adams at “ Langley Dale.” Mr. W. Pulliene, Auckland, who has been visitng Mr. and Mrs. Rogers, “ Eltham Lodge,” has returned home. Miss Connie Houston is visiting the Empire City. Mr. C. McShane has returned from a holiday spent in the North Island. Mr. A. H. Barker, “Top House,” is on a visit to Wellington. Miss Bnrden (Napier) and Miss V. Leslie, who have been spending a few weeks with Mr. and Mrs, C. Colt, at “ Langley Dale,” have returned to town, and are now staying with Mr. and Mrs. 11. E. Burden.
