Dear Bee. Jonuary 29. There was a good and unusually enthusiastic audience' at the Opera House on Thursday night, on the occasion of the Ada Crossley concert. Lady Plunket was present, accompanied by Air and Mrs Waterfield and Aliss Hill (England). Lord Plunket was away in the South Island, and so unable to attend. Her Excellency wore a black sequined net toilette; Mrs Waterfield, pale pink silk; Miss Hill, black silk with cream lace; Mrs Martin. pale blue silk Empire frock, trimmed with Valenciennes lace and touch of silver; Airs Somerville Brown, black sequined net over silk, finished with cream lace; Mrs R. Davis, white satin Empire toilette, richly trimmed with silver sequin embroidery; Airs Mellsop, black velvet, cream lace berthe, Paisley cape; Airs Alan Strang, cream chenille spotted net over silk, cluster of pink roses; Airs 11. V. Watson, black satin; Mrs Park, black silk toilette, cream scarf; Aliss Park, pink voile, the bodice finished with cream lace and pink silk; Airs Jolly, black silk and cream lace; Airs (Dr.) Wilson, white lace frock; Airs O’Brien, black silk, vest and sleeves of

Lady Plunket, who was present, wore a black net toilette, the bodice finished with a cluster of crimson flowers, long champagne lace coat; Mrs Waterfield, black silk and cream lace; Miss Hill, black silk and long saxb blue coat; Mrs Walter Strang, pale blue silk taffeta, trimmed with lace and touches of silver; Mrs Bagnall, cream satin and lace; Miss F. Waldegrave, white muslin, made with many lace-edged frills; Mrs Putnam, cream silk and laee; Mrs Wilson, cream silk, cluster- of black and yellow flowers; Miss Bannister, cream silk and lace; Miss Mabel Bannister’ rich red silk toilette with cream laee berthe; Mr and Mrs C. Lady Plunket was in a black net toilette trimmed with black sequin insertion, champagne coat; Lady Jane Hardy, black silk with cluster of dull red flowers on corsage; Mrs. Waterfield, black crepe de ■chine, the bodice trimmed with white tulle and bands of jet insertion. Saturday there was only a medium attendance. Alany are still away at the seaside, and several of our betteK players were in Masterton and Marton, taking part in tournaments being held there. Gibbons, Air. and Airs. Spencer, Air. and Airs. A. Rennell, Airs. Gibbons (Waikato), Aliss AleVay (Napier), Miss B. Gemmel, Airs. F. Robinson, Aliss Reed (Sydney), Messrs. A. Barrand, Keeble, Scott, and Hope Gibbons. Airs. A. Rennell won the first prize, a picture, and Air. Spencer the men’s prize, a quaint little ash tray. PERSONAL NOTES. Mrs. Sprawle (Napier) spent a few days last week with Airs. H. Waldegrave. Airs. Bendall and children have returned from a long stay at Scorcher Bay, Wellington. Mrs. and Aliss AlcKnight have returned from a visit to Wanganui. Air. and Airs. AV. Harden spent a few days in Wellington last week. The Alisses Alorrah have returned from a visit to Wellington. Mrs. Warburton and Miss F. Waldegrave are in Wellington for a week. Airs. Bruce (Auckland), who was the guest of Airs. AV. Harden last week, has returned home. Mr. and Airs. Frank Waldegrave (Wellington), who very recently returned from a. visit to England' and the Continent, are the guests of Airs. C. E.. Waldegrave.
