LEVIN SPRING FLOWER SHOW. (See illustrations Page 36.) A very fine Hora I display was prcsenttd at the annua! spring show held at lx*vin on I)e<*<‘inh(‘r 2 and 3. Various buildings were made use of in order to accommodate the large number of entries received for the different classes. The show was opened by Mr James Prouse. in the absence of Mr \V. H. Field. M.P. lie congratulated the exhibitors upon their excellent display, and the zeal displayed m coming from Palmerston N. on the one hand ami Porirua on Ihe ol her. He hoped t hat they would come back again from year to year. He also "extended thanks to the nurserymen who. by their displays, taught people how to grow the best of Howers. Sonic M f the classes were productive of excellent displays; sweet, peas being represented by some 3(H) exhibits. Mr (J. <Holder scored largely. The roses were exceedingly choice, the champion exhibit going to Mr F. Penn, of Otaki. Mrs Proiise secured quite a number of prizes in pot plants, her exhibits being much admired. She secured the silver medal given by Mr L. Bowen for the best collection of 16 varieties of cut blooms. Messrs Thus. Horton, Ltd., showed sonic very line varieties of roses; Air Cooper also being a prominent exhibitor in roses, pelargoniums and carnations. .Mr Wightman was another exhibitor who merited praise* for cut blooms and pot plants. Mr Benefield provided a cool green contrast in his fine display of ferns and nikau palms. The juveniles made a splendid exhibit in gardening, domestic and school work. A little Maori maid. Roka Riddiford, secured first prize in plasticene work out of 11 entries. Point prizes were awarded as follows: Cut blooms, Mrs Bull; sweet jicas. Mr G. ('. Holder; decorative, Mrs Mcßain: domestic, Mrs Anstice; vegetables, Mr Me Bain. A number of exhibits .were placed on view by the Training farm, under charge of Miss McCall. Mr J. Prouse, in closing the show', said that the thousand entries that they had before them constituted the finest show that they had ever had. They would have to face the question of more accommodation for future displays. He expressed regret at the death of Mr Hall, who had been a most useful member of committee. The takings amounted in all to close upon £5O.
