NORTHERN UNION GAMS.

Anekland v. Taranaki. The second interprovincial match of the season under Northern Union rules took place at Victoria Park on Saturday. The weather was fine; in fact too fine, and more adapted to cricket than football. There was a fair attendance, it being estimated that 2000 were present. With the exception that Walsh replaced Potier in the Taranaki team, the thirteens were as published. Auckland won by 21 points to 18. For the winners, Tyler, McDonald, Rowe, R. Wynyard and Marshall scored tries, two of which were converted by Tyler and Marshall, and Houghton kicked a goa’ from a mark.

Taranaki’s points were made up by tries scored by Buckland (2), McLean, and Hooker, two of which were converted by- Hardgrave, who also kicked a goal from a mark.

The game was fast ;<ne. exciting from the kick-off till play ceased, and was of a very even character, the ball travelling from end to end of the ground at a rapid rate. Taranaki looked to have Auckland beaten till about a quarter of an hour before time w-as called, when the local men livened up, and the visitors were kept on the defensive till the bell rang. For Taranaki, Hardgreave, W. McLean, Buckland, and Frewiu were the

best of the backs, the forwards being • very even lot. For Auckland, Rowe, R. Wynyard, and Asher were most prominent in the rear division, and W. Tyler, Trevarthen, and McDonald in the forwards.
