Sign of the Times. Tung Shaoyi is visiting Europe to endeavour to induce the Powers to withdraw their troops from the Legation areas in Pekin. A body of the Japanese Embassy Guard in Pekin lately invaded a Chinese house and seized a Japanese traitor, a captain of artillery, and incriminating papers. The traitor was quickly conveyed to the Japanese Legation, wliere he confessed and then performed hari-kari ((suicide by disembowelling). Reform Odions to the Shah. At si Durbar held last week the Shah publicly expressed delight at ridding Persia of the curse of infidels, meaning Constitutionalists. China and J apan, The Chinese authorities at Chinchau have seized a shipment of 10,000 rifles and 2,000,000 cartridges. Japanese merchants have protested against the seizure, alleging that the cargo is theirs. The incident has occasioned some excitement.
