MAYORS OF THE FOUR CHIEF CITIES OF NEW ZEALAND.
Though the Welcome to the fleet takes place in Auckland, it is given in the name of the whole Dominion, and the Mayors of all the principal cities were bidden to take part in the festivities. Many of them travelled up by the special train from Wellington which was the first to connect the capital with Auckland. Almost every city in the Dominion has, moreover, forwarded a flag representing it, these being quite a feature of the decorations in Queen Street. We give portraits of the Mayors of the four provincial capitals. It would have been pleasant to print photos, of all participating Mayors, but the pictures could not be got together in time, and to give some, and not others, would have been invidious.
