THE VERMONT (First-Class Battleship).
Ihe Vermont differs but little from the other first-class battleships, Connecticut, Louisiana, and Kansas, of the first division. I hese speedy battleships are noted for then especially laige capacity for carrying coal, each ship being able to put aboard a supply of 2,200 tons. Four submerged torpedo lubes, equipped for propelling the new powerful turbine-driven 21 inch torpedo, are a part of the equipment of these ships. Complement. 41 officers, 815 men.
THE KANSAS (First-Class Battleship). The Kansas is a similar ship to the Vermont. She has a speed record of 18 knots. The four 12-inch guns ar mounted in two large turrets, and eight 8-inch guns in the broadside turrets, supplemented by a powerful second battery of twelve 7-inch rapid-firers. Displacement. 16,000 |ons; length, 450 feet; breadth. 76.83 feet; mean draught, 24.5 feet; horse-power, 19,757. Complement, 41 officers, 815 men.
THE MINNESOTA (First-Class Battleship). Ihe battleship Minnesota is sister ship to the Vermont She is a battleship of I(>.000 ton displacement, and has a speed record of nearly 1 9 knots per hour I ler main battery consist; of four 12-inch gun*, eight 8 inch guns, twelve 7-inch guns, and four torpedo tubes. She it 450 feet in length Complement. 41 officers. 815 men
