Over a hundred competitors had either misread the word “pinion" as “opinion," or hud formed the idea that by writihg “o pinion” they were complying with the terms of the competition. One competitor used “pinion” in the sense of “pennon.” Setting these papers aside, there still remained 110, in which the correct word was used.
