NAPIER.

Dear Bee, February 28. On Thursday afternoon last Mrs. Edgar invited some of her friends to bid farewell prior to her departure to England. Her pretty rooms were will filled, and I noticed lots of pretty frocks. During the afternoon we had an amusing “Stage Wedding Competition.” Ths prizes were won by Mrs. Adair Blythe and Mrs. James McLean. Mrs. Levien and Mrs. Blythe sang very prettily, and Miss Muriel Locking gave a very amusing recitation. Mrs. Edgar wore such a pretty white muslin and lace frock over white glace silk; Miss Hilda Hitchings had on a pink and floral muslin frock, bodice outlined with blue taffeta; Miss K. Hitchings looked well in a white taffeta skirt, white lace and net blouse; Mrs. Nantes wore a smart black and white froek, touches of black and white lace, becoming large black hat with soft white feathers; Mrs. C. Cornford, dainty white muslin frock, with touches of pale blue, blue picture hat; Miss Bendall, picturesque green and white striped muslin frock, white net bodice, dark green hat with wreath of pink roses; Mrs. Bowen, white muslin frock, with smart Gobelin blue hat trimmed with drooping feathers; Mrs. Henley wore brown muslin, brown and pink hat; Mrs. Bernau, light grey cloth costume, trimmed with black velvet, picture hat trimmed with mauve flowers; Miss Rutledge, navy blue muslin froek, becoming white floral hat; Mrs Levien, graceful brown striped gown, large pale blue and brown hat; Mrs. Rodie, pale blue striped frock, kimono bodice over white lao?, blue and pink hat; Mrs. A. Locking, white muslin dress, mushroom hat with shaded roses; Mrs. Hamlin, smart black and white taffeta frock, black hat trimmed with violets; Mrs. Tonkin, black voile dress, black toque; Miss Tonkin, white muslin and lace dress, pale blue hat; Mrs. Younghusband, cream serge pleated coat and skirt, black and blue hat, chiffon stole; Miss Turton, dainty blue and pink floral muslin frock, blue sash, bodice trimmed with blue; Mrs. Moore,' black taffeta frock, black straw picture hat; Mrs. Tabuteau, grey taffeta frock trimmed with black velvet, white fedihered hat,’white feather stole; Mrs. Westall, soft grey silk frock, kimono bodice over white and red embroidered bodice, white and red picture hat; Mrs. Lawlor, white silk frock, black hat. A MOST ENJOYABLE , CHILDREN S PARTY was given by Mrs. W. G. Russell at her residence, Kowhai-road, on Wednesday last, in honour of her daughter Maisie’s fifth birthday. The table was artistically decorated with coloured ribbons, sweet peas, and fairy lamps. The Misses Russell looked sweet little pictures in their white silk frocks and pale green sashes, and did much towards entertaining their little guests. Some of the little ones present were little Miss 77,1 ton, Tippy Besent, Helina Williams, Isabel McLernon, Elsa Linden, Ngaro Nixon, Freda Weber. Rita Chapman, Maggie Laing, Bell Jefferies, Rema Willcocks, Masters Stuart, Rainey, Bilton, Keely, London, and Ashcroft. j SOME PURELY PERSONAL ITEMS. Miss Turton, of Wellington, is on a short visit to Napier. Mrs. Younghusband, of Wellington, is staying in Hawke’s Bay. Miss McLernon has returned to Napier, after spending some weeks in Auckland. Miss Baker, of Wellington, is on a short visit to Napier. Mrs. Coleman is absent from Napier on a visit to Rotorua. Mr. and Miss Godfray, of Waipukurau, leave this week on a six months’ visit to England. Miss Banks, of Christchurch, has been in Napier for a week. Dr. Moore has returned to Napier, after spending a holiday at Taupo. Miss M. McLean left last week on a visit to England. Miss Seale has returned from a visit to Auckland. Miss Fraser is spending some weeks in Auckland. Mrs. Cameron returned home last week from a visit to Christchurch.
