GISBORNE.
Dear Bee, January 16. There is almost a complete dearth of entertainments in Gisborne just now, a great number of people being away at Tatapouri, Morere, and Wairoa. Since Christinas week also the theatre lias been closed —nothing on at all, except moving pictures, and so forth. A box plan has been opened here for Madame Clara Butt’s Concert Company, and if "there be sufficient booking she will visit Gisborne. A great number of people are most anxious to hear her, and have already booked their seats. The handicaps for the Whataupoko Tennis and Croquet Tournaments are published to-night, so there will be more zest in the general play, not only on Saturdays, but throughout the week. Mrs. Frank Barker gave a very enjoyable EUCHRE PARTY AND DANCE last Saturday night. Mrs. Frank Barker’s home lends itself to artistic effect, and the hall looked particularly charming with its masses of foliage and Oriental furnishings. Supper was laid out in the dining-room, the table being daintily arranged with flowers and ribbons. Barker, pale blue flowered muslin over silk slip; Miss M. Barker, white silk, flowered silk bretelles; Miss Nolan, white muslin and lace; Miss Reynolds, amber satin; Miss R. Reynolds, black silk, trimmed with lace; Mrs. Burke, black silk, cream lace berthe; Miss Mamie Williamson, flowered voile over silk slip; Miss Amy Sheratt, dainty gown, pale green taffeta silk; Miss De Latour, white silk; Miss Gould, white silk and lace; Miss B.
