Dear Bee, November 29. A SMALL TENNIS PARTY was given on Friday afternoon by Mrs. Pyne at Bealey-avenue. The guests were Mrs. George Gould, Mrs. and Miss Boyle, the Misses Kettle (2), Mrs. Henry Cotterill, Miss Pitman, the Misses Clock (2), Miss Macdonald, and Miss Thompson. . Uolonel and Mrs. Smith had A GARDEN .’PARTY on Saturday at Riverslaw, Opawa, as a farewell prior to their departure on a visit to England. The Garrison Band was in attendance, and played delightfully. Tennis, croquet, and bowls were the amusements provided. This garden, which lias always been famed for its roses, looked, lovely, and called forth universal admiration. Amongst the numerous guests were Lieutenant-Colonel Hawkins, Mrs. and Miss Hawkins, Colonel and Mrs. Day, Major Snow, Mrs. and Miss Snow, Cap. tain and Mrs. Stuart, Mr. Guthrie, Mr. and Mrs. Stevenson, the Misses Wilson, Mr. and Mrs. A. K. England, Mrs. and. Miss White. , LAWN TENNIS. During the week two small tennis parties have been given, one by the Misses Humphreys at Fendalton, and the other by Miss Wilding, Opawa. The players were the'Misses Pitman, Symes, ‘ Deans, Macdonald, Cracroft, Wilson, arid Messrs. Anderson,' Friar, Williams, and Allen. BRIDGE. - J Mrs. H. H. Lough nah, Avonside, had a small bridge party on Tuesday afternoon. CONCERT. ’ The last of the series of Chamber concerts which has been given by the Misses Wells and Mr. Gladstone Bell took place on Thursday, November 28, at the Alexandra Hall, and was undoubtedly the best, although all have been good. The announcement that a second series of concerts would commence about April, next year, was greeted with applause. COMING EVENTS. Entertaining in Christchurch seems quite at Several of the usual hostesses arc out of town, which may pirtly account for the dullness. Mrs. Finch and Mrs. A. Appleby have sent out invitations for next wek. Mrs. Appleby will hold her At Home at the United Tennis and Croquet Clubs’ grounds iu Hagley Park.
