August 23. Last Friday evening Mr. and Mrs. If. F. Christie gave A MOST ENJOYABLE DANCE in the Eire Brigade Hall. The large upstairs room makes an ideal bail room, the floor Iwing simply perfect. Most delicious supper was laid in an adjoining room, the table being artistically decorated with masses of yellow spring bulbs with long sprays of as|*aragiis fern, and dainty pale yellow crinkled paper shades for the candles. Mrs. Christie won* a handsome electric blue silk gown, the corsage was prettily made with folds of Ihe silk and deep cream lace, full sleeves edged with lace. Izard wore a becoming cream satin gown, the skirt was made very full and puffed elbow sleeves, berthe of real lace, she carried a beautiful shower bouquet of violets and ferns; Mrs Tzett. black silk frock with sleeves of not and lace, berthe of lace on her corsage. and a spray of crimson flowers; Mrs. R. On Wednesday there was only a fair attendance at the GOLF links. Afternoon tea was provided by Mrs. and Miss Gibbons. Prizes presented by Mr. Stevenson were played for during the afternoon; the senior being won by Miss Olive Stanford and the junior by Mrs. 11. Nixon. Amongst ithose present were Mesdames Gibbons. 11. Lonrax, Misses Stevenson. Dymock, Bates, Mrs. Meldrum, and Others. BRIDGE. On Wednesday, Mrs. Peake gave a farewell bridge party in honour of Mrs. Blundell, who is leaving shortly for Nelson. The first prize was won by Mrs. Dodgshun (a picture), the. 2nd (a Liberty Hea-pot) by Mrs. Gordon, and the booby l(a Liberty candle-stick) fell to Mrs. (Fairburn. Amongst those present were Mesdames Sarjeant, Brettargh, Humphreys, Blundell, Peake, Dodgshun, Fairburn, Izard, Stevenson, Brookfield. D’(Arcy, Gordon. Griffiths.
