August 23. Last Friday evening Mr. and Mrs. If. F. Christie gave A MOST ENJOYABLE DANCE in the Eire Brigade Hall. The large upstairs room makes an ideal bail room, the floor Iwing simply perfect. Most delicious supper was laid in an adjoining room, the table being artistically decorated with masses of yellow spring bulbs with long sprays of as|*aragiis fern, and dainty pale yellow crinkled paper shades for the candles. Mrs. Christie won* a handsome electric blue silk gown, the corsage was prettily made with folds of Ihe silk and deep cream lace, full sleeves edged with lace. Miss Christie. becoming pale blue silk, the pleated skirt was finished with French knots, high swathed silk belt
and berthe of lloniion la c on her corsage: Miss Dorothy ( liris-t i<». pnle pink silk frock, the skirl was made with wide French tucks and berthe of cream lacc; Miss Gladys Christie, pale heliotrope floral muslin with lace and insertion; Mrs. McNaughton Christie, black silk gown, with medallions of deep cream lace on her corsage; Mrs. Meldrum, cream silk gown with white swathed belt and berthe of lace; Mrs. Imlay Saunders, black chiffon taffeta with wide berthe of cream lacc and rose pink roses on her corsage; Mrs. Pratt wore a becoming gown of soft pale blue silk, the skirt was finished with French knots, the corsage was prettily trimmed with cream net and lace embroidered in black silk: Mrs. Hutton, pale green chiffon taffeta gown with pleated skirt ornamented with French knots, high swathed silk belt, her corsage was daintily trimmed with velvet of a deeper shade; Mrs. Fairburn, black brocade with wide band of black velvet at the foot of her skirt, her corsage was of brocade with velvet sleeves edged with kilted brocade, fichu of Brussels lace; Mrs. A. Izard wore a becoming cream satin gown, the skirt was made very full and puffed elbow sleeves, berthe of real lace, she carried a beautiful shower bouquet of violets and ferns; Mrs Tzett. black silk frock with sleeves of not and lace, berthe of lace on her corsage. and a spray of crimson flowers; Mrs. R. Jackson, beautiful cream chiffon taffetas gown, the full skirt had a band of golden shaded silk at the foot <‘<!ged with lace, crossover corsage with a strapping of llie gold silk; Mrs. G. Marshall, cream glace gown with overskirt of cream and silver striped chiffon; Mrs. D’Arcy, black silk gown with folded silk corsage showing a vest of cream net and lace embroidered in pale blue; Mrs. Q. Currie, cream silk gown, the skirt had a wide flounce of embroidered chiffon and berthe of the same on her corsage; Mrg. James Watt, pretty pale pink silk gown, with net and lace on her corsage, embroidered in black silk; Miss Moore, white crepe de chine frock with wide swathed belt and folded corsage; Mrs. Wall, pale blue crepe de chine with gaugings of silk forming true lovers knots on the skirt and kilted silk on her corsage; Mrs. F. Hatherly, white silk gown with berthe of lace; Miss M. Grace (Wairarapa), wore a beautiful frock of cream glace with overskirt of cream chiffon, the full skirt had a wide at the foot of rose pink hand-paint*'3. flowers and foliage, the cordage trimmed with the same, she carried a bouquet of yose pink flowers; Miss Acland (Christchurch), pale smoke-blue silk frock with fichu of lace; Miss Empson, cream silk gown with gaugings of silk .ml berthe of lace and chiffon; Miss Barnicoat wore a smart gown composed of narrow frills of Valenciennes lace over pale green silk, the skirt was caught at iuU rvajs with knots of soft green silk, with the same on her corsage; Mrs. 11. Nixon, emerald green silk, the corsage was square cut with tucker of chiffon; Miss Roberta (Ashburton), rose pink satin frock, with berthe of lace; Mi. s H. «f while flowers; Miss Cutfield, pale heliotrope chiffon taffetas gown, with folded chiffon on her corsage; Mrs. Miles, turquoise blue silk frock, with berthe of lace and pink shaded roses and foliage on her corsage; Miss McNeill wore a cream silk frock with fichu of net and lace and apnay of shaded flowers on her corsage; Mrs. Gonviile (Saunders, becoming gown of black chiffon taffetas, the skirt made with a frill of silk at the foot, ’and cream lace on her corsage. On Wednesday there was only a fair attendance at the GOLF links. Afternoon tea was provided by Mrs. and Miss Gibbons. Prizes presented by Mr. Stevenson were played for during the afternoon; the senior being won by Miss Olive Stanford and the junior by Mrs. 11. Nixon. Amongst ithose present were Mesdames Gibbons. 11. Innes, H. Nixon. Mackay, Sarjeant, G. Saunders, Clay, Misses Nixon. Giblions, Scott (Gisborne), Dalrymple i( Bulls). Morrison, Brewer. Stanford (2), (Brettargh, Wiggins, Knapp, Cave, Willord. ?/lrs. Lonrax, Misses Stevenson. Dymock, Bates, Mrs. Meldrum, and Others. BRIDGE. On Wednesday, Mrs. Peake gave a farewell bridge party in honour of Mrs. Blundell, who is leaving shortly for Nelson. The first prize was won by Mrs. Dodgshun (a picture), the. 2nd (a Liberty Hea-pot) by Mrs. Gordon, and the booby l(a Liberty candle-stick) fell to Mrs. (Fairburn. Amongst those present were Mesdames Sarjeant, Brettargh, Humphreys, Blundell, Peake, Dodgshun, Fairburn, Izard, Stevenson, Brookfield. D’(Arcy, Gordon. Griffiths. Newton King i(New Plymouth), Renny, Shaw (Australia), and Miss Owen. HUIA.
