GISBORNE.
Dear Bee, August 9. What is occupying our minds and interest just now is the visit of Miss Mureutt, who is giving a series of lectures here in His Majesty’s Theatre, and never before lias a more interesting ’and eloquent woman speaker been heard here. Miss Murcirtt’s lectures are chiefly about her travels, her impressions, and experiences. and one’s attention cannot flag for a moment. Miss Murcutt gave six lectures while here, and each night the theatre was crowded. One most interesting discourse was a description of the “Sweating system in London,” which gave one a true insight into the awfulness of the whole thing. Miss Murcutt will long be remembered in Gisborne as an interesting and eloquent epeaker. A COMING CONCERT. 'The Gisborne Orchestral Society intend giving a concert on the 15th of August, and in the ipeantime are working up a splendid programme to put before the public. The Poverty Bay hounds met last Wednesday at Mr. Black’s, place, ‘‘Pako
whai,” and after a very enjoyable day's sport, all those following wore entertained at lunch by the Misses Black. Ou Thursday next the Poverty Bay Hunt Club races are to be held in the Gisborne Racing Club's course, and an interesting d’ay is anticipated. In the evening a ‘‘steeplechase dance” is to be held, of which I will tell you more in my next letter. ELS.A.
