Dt*ir Bee, July 19. On Friday night last, the Misses Fraser, of (.’raven College, gave (heir annual CHILDREN’S PARTY in honour of the birthday of their niece, Coppie Cargill. From 7.30 p.in. till 10.30 p.m. the Municipal Hall was crowded with a happy throng of girls. Some danced, others took part in charades, and all thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Supper, that important part of a children’s party, was of the most ■fascinating description. Coppie, the heroine of the occasion, was prettily dressed in white silk and lace, with a dainty fringed sash. The bigger girls present included the Misses Mary and Linda Munro, Marjorie and Alison Barnicoat, Ina and Gladys Moore, Sybil and Sylvia Abraham, Dorothy and Trixie Waldegrave, Mona O’Brien, Kathleen Bell, Winnie Watson, Noeline Keeling, Aileen McKnight, Dorothy Tripe, Noeline Luxford, and upwards of fifty boarders from the College. Mrs. F. E. Watson, Fergusson-street, gave A SMALL EVENING PARLY on Saturday. In the early part of the evening progressive euchre was played. Miss Bell proved the winner of the ladies’ prize, a dainty little pincushion. After supper there was some enjoyable music, the Misses Waldegrave and l*orter, and Messrs. Watson, Smith and Hockley contributing items. The guests were the Misses Bell, F. Waldegrave, Preece, Porter, and Levin, and Messrs. Watson (3), Smith, Caul, Hockley, Russell. Waldegrave and Cohesion. THE PAHIATUA GOLF CLUB visited Palmerston last’ Saturday, and played a match with a second team from the local club. The visitors were driven to the links, and after being entertained at luncheon in the golf house, play commenced. The match was a draw r , each side winning three games and halving two. Messrs. Richie, Lilly, MacShane, MeSherry, Collins, Norton and Husband represented Pahiatua, and Messrs. G. W. Harden, B. L. Smith, R. S. Abraham, C. Adams, C. Loiiisson, O. Collins. R. Mill ton, and F. J. Nathan played for Palmerston. The monthly bogey competition was played on the Hokowhitu links on Tuesday afternoon. Mrs. Freeth .won ’ihC: senior competition. The junior match ended in a tie between Miss Wylds and Miss Neave. A SUCCESSFUL CONCERT was given in the Opera House on Tuesday night in aid of All Saints’ Children’s Home. The vocal soloists were most fortunate in their selection of songs, and all received well-merited encores. Miss Essex “Sunshine and Rain.” and as encore “You’d better ask me.’” The Misses Drew gave the duet, “Beauty’s Eyes,” and “Nocturne” in response to an imperative recall. Mr. Vivian’s numbers were “Thy Sentinel am I,” and “The Little Irish Girl.” Mr. Wallace, “The King’s Courier,” and as an encore, “Scots Wae Hae.” The Palmerston band played several selections, and there were two or three instrumental quartettes. Miss Hayward played the accompaniments throughout the evening. Miss Drew wore a dainty white muslin and lace frock; Miss Gladys Drew, pale blue silk and chiffon; Miss Essex, white muslin and lace; Miss Haywaid, winecoloured velvet, cream lace threaded with wine-coloured satin ribbon trimming the bodice. A PROFITABLE SALE OF WORK. promoted by All Saints* Girls’ Guild in aid «»f the Melanesian and Maori Missions was hoi I on Wednesday afternoon. ’The three stalls all did a thriving trade, and a very satisfactory sum was raised. The needlework stall was presided over by the Misses Ganstad, McDowell, Drew and K. Fitzgerald; Sweets, the Misses 1. Bell. J. Gan st ad and C. Fitzgerald. Produce: Masters (’. Smith and .1. Young. In the evening, among other items ot entertainment was a farce which caused a deal of amusement. The characters were sustained by the Misses Drew, Tat ton and Griggs, and Messrs. Burnard, < iirdlestone and Connors. The Rev. and Mrs. C. <’. Harper, Rev. Stephenson, Mr. Kendrick. Mr. and Mrs. Barnicoat, the Misses Barnicoat; (’apt. and Mra. Hewitt, the Misses Wilson, Mias Brswick. Mra. Freeth, Mr*, and Miss Randolph. Mr*. Bendali, Mrs. IfankfMa. Mr*. W. L. Fitzgerald, and many others were present. • - VIOLET.
