Mr. John Farrell, Mayor of Grey Lynn, returned from the South by the Rarawa on Saturday last.

Mr C. W. Robertson returned last week from a three months' business tour in the South.

Mr. W. F. Massey, M.H.R., leader ot the Opposition, was a pasenger from the South bv the Rarawa last week.

Mr and Airs P. J. Skiates, Devonport, left on Saturday by the Moura for Wellington to join the Corinthic en route for London.

Air F. Kearsley, who attended the annual communication of the Masonio Grand Lodge at Invercargill, returned to Auckland last week. Airs. Wells and Miss IL Wells have returned home to (Ambridge from their trip South after an absence of two months.

Air Thomas Aldridge, stationmaster at Balchitha, has been promoted to take charge of Frankton Junction station. He commenced his new duties this week. The engagement is announced of Miss Helen V. Menzies, only daughter of Mr. John Alenzies, Remuera, to Mr. J. H. Ferguson, second son Of Mr. John Ferguson, Cambridge.

Mr. Bodie, manager of the Aucklaua branch of the New Zealand Loan aud Mercantile Company, returned from a visit to Wellington by the Rarawa last week.

Mr. Walklalc, the recently-appointed general manager for the Auckland Electric Tramways Company, arrived by the Zealandia from Sydney on Sunday, with Mrs. Walklate and their two children.

Mr J. W. Shackelford, who intends making a trip to England shortly, was presented with a handsome travelling bag by the members of Pitt-street Methodist Church last week, as a slight recognition of his lengthy and able service to the Church and the denomination generally.

The City Engineer (Mr Walter E. Bush) is at present in Dunedin for the purpose of discussing details of the city electrical scheme with the Council’s consulting engineer, Mr W. G. T. Goodman. Mr Bush will be away for nearly a fortnight.

Mr. G. Goodwin, one of the directors of R. and W. Hellaby. Ltd., who left last week on a visit to England, was presented by the employees of the firm with a travelling case as a mark of their esteem. Mr. D. B. Stewart, the oldest employee present, made the presentation. Messrs. Cooper, of Wellington, R. R. Goulding, of Napier, and K. Graham, of Auckland, three surveyors, have accepted engagements to undertake surveying in the Selangor district, Malay West, Straits Settlement. They leave Wellington for Singapore and the Straits at the end of this week.

HAWKE’S BAY PROVINCE. Miss Cameron, of Dunedin, is in Napier. Mr. T. E. Crosse, of Hastings, is on a visit to Fiji. Miss Douglas, of Hawke’s Bay, is spending some weeks in the South Island. Dr. Leahy, of Napier, is on a holiday trip to Sydney.

Mr. and Airs. F. Bee have left on a holi day visit to the Old Country.

Mr. C. Richardson is on a short visit to Napier. Miss Begg, of Napier, is in Wellington for a few weeks.

Mrs. Hand, of Wellington, is spending some weeks in Napier with her daughter. Airs. D. A. Baxter. Miss Rees has returned to Gisborne, after spending a week or two in Napier with Mrs. Lusk.

Air. and Mrs. Stedman, of Napier, left last week for England, where they intend spending a six months' holiday. Sir Robert Stout, accompanied by Lady Stout and Miss Stout, are on a visit to Napier.

Miss L. Hoadley, who has been in Wellington for some months, has returned to Napier.

Edwin is baek in Wellington after a visit to Mrs. Gorton, Feilding. Mrs. Perry (Wellington)' is visiting friends in Christchurch. Mrs. Christie, of Wanganui, lias re* turned from her visit to New Plymouth. Mrs Maclean is back in Wanganui from Greymouth. Miss Richmond, of Wanganui, is visiting friends in Nelson. Miss Gresson, of Christchurch, is staying in Wanganui with Mrs. Gordon. Mr. R. L. Herdman is back in Wellington after a run across to Sydney. Miss Henry (Wellington) is visiting friends in Wanganui.

Mrs. Pollen is back in Wellington after a stay in Nelson. Mrs. Latrobe (Wellington) has gone to Sydney for the winter months. Mrs. Gore (Wellington) is visiting Sydney.

Mr. Hugh Mac Neil! and Alias MacNeill (Sydney) have been spending a forts night in Wellington. Mr. G. W. S. Bell is back in Wellington after a trip to Sydney and Melbourne.

Airs. A melius Smith, Wellington, has just spent a few days with Mrs. C. E. Waldegrave, Palmerston North. Air. E. S. Pearce has left Wellington for a holiday trip to England, travelling by the new Shaw Savill steamer Arawa.

Aliss Amy Murphy (Dunedin) paid a farewell visit to Wellington to say goodbye to her many friends before leaving for Australia.

Air. J. Montgomerie, who lias been living in South Africa for the past few years, has returned to that country after spending six months’ holiday in New Zealand. Mr. Montgomerie went to the Boer War with one of the contingents, and after Peace was declared, settled down to farming in one of the South African colonies.
