JJSar Bee, - May 3. It cleared up so nicely for the CLUB BALL and the evening Mas just keen enough to make dancing even more delightful than usual. Insr’e the building there has been quit’. a transformation. ’ A new wing has beri added, 'and all the. rooms have latc’y b?en done up in such artistic colours. Many of the heavy, old-fashioned things have been done away with and their place has been taken by modern furniture in ’fumed 'oak and quaint liberty d’esigjns. On Thursday night pa.’ u'a, ferns, and flowering shrubs bordered the stairs and were grouped abort the corridors with picturesque effect. The w'alls of the ballroom were gorgeous with the flags of all nations, the red and white rayed banner of Ja>prn being in friendly proximity to tbe Union Jack, which was also flanked by the. Stars and Stripes.
_ 'The Sipecjaliy designed prognammes were artistically done, and there was appropriate music for the occasion. Scarlet cactus dahlias, golden coreopsis and many icolcuyed. chryaanithemums comprised the floral decorations, ea'eh supper table being done with a different design. The supper itself was a triumph. Lady Fawkes wore a beautiful dress- of-bi-ack glace completely veiled in chiffon and handsome lace, diamond
ornaments and shower bouquet; Mrs. Bell, . who with Mr. Bell, helped to receive the guests, was wearing a very handsome dress of opal messaline, richly embroidered and flounced with lace; Miss Johnston, ivory chiffon, embroidered in jet and sequins; Mrs. C. Pharazyn, ivory crepe de chine, made in the Empire style, the full skirt being appliqued with ribbon knots and Empire ■wrea/tilis; beautiful lace delicately embroidered in silver appeared on the corsage; Mrs. Walter Nathan, white glace silk with handsome design of mauve lilac relieved with lace; Miss Nathan pink and •white flowerel chine; Miss—-Nathan, ivory taffetas and lace; Miss Johnston, ivory chiffon glace with bertlie and leeves of handsome lace: Mrs. Hislop, black chiffon velvet with wide collar of handsome Malines lace; Mi's. Brandon, black crepe de chine and sequins; Mrs.O.Pearce very handsome dress of white chiffon, much trimmed with black lace and jet? Mrs. Wallis, pastel ehiffon taffetas ami lace; Mrs. Larnacb, ’.i handsome dress of ivory pc.tu de spin. with a floral design, finished with lace ami ehiffon; Miss Harcourt. ivory satin and taea; Mrs. Menzies, ivory radium silk, the skirt having tiny frills, epaulettes of wide lace, and berthe of the same, with touches of eilver; Mrs. Dunean, ivory moire with flounces of lace; Miss Dymoek, rose and white floral chine, rose pink belt; Mrs. Laing-Meason, black ehiffon and jet; Miss Stafford, shell pink mousseline de soie, the full- skirt having narrow niching* of the -material, and the corsage finished with a sleep belt of pink taffetas Miss Brandon, ivory radium silk with appliqued motifs of )Hy green, bolero of lace ami pale green licit; Mias L. Haybitle (debutante), white radium silk, with frills of lace and chiffon. There were many other very bountiful dresses worn, but in the crowd of nearly four hundred people it was a litlte difficult to identify the wearers, many of whom were, of course, strangers, Friday was the afternoon of Mrs Beauchamp's AT HOME. which proved particularly enjoyable. The hostess was assisted in entertaining by her clever daughters, who gave a really capital musical programme, including songs, together with solo and concerted items on the violin, the ’cello, and the piano. Mrs Beauchamp wore black peaii de soie, lavishly trimmed with lielie Irish Imo, Ihe tiny vest being of esprit net, Iler two elder daughters wore charming lace and net dresses, piped with vivid glace. Miss (I Beam hump was in a pinafore dress of sky blue, glace, with lace sleeves and yoke. Iler youngest sister was all in white, with a pale blue bell. The giu-sis included Mrs Cutfield in petunia silk eolienne, with a black velvet liat ; Mis Alibolt, tabac brown crepe de chine, with pipings of reseda, reseda toque with wings; Mrs Firth. Parma, violet velvet, slashed with lilac satin, white fox toque and furs; Mrs Samuel, pale grey crepe de chine, with bands of wide ivory laee. black ami white picture hat: Mrs McEwan, reseda voile, and pale green toque, with feathers; Mrs Xalhaii. dark blue taffetas, and black hat: Miss Nathan, pale pink Sicilian, with motifs of laee: Miss Riley, while embroidered glace, with design of rosebuds, pink and white hat; Miss Butts, myrtle Lgreen glace, and ecru laee hat will! black tip,: Miss MeTavish, dull blue doth, the long coat having' revers of brown velvet, pale blue hat garlanded with dahlias; Miss Miles, vicux rose crepede chine; Miss Stafford, pale blue, doth, and hat with flowers.
