AUCKLAND PROVINCE.

Mr W. R. Mobiles returned from the South by the Rarawa last week.

Dr. Quick arrived from the South by the. Takapna on Sunday. Captain Easton arrived from New Plymouth by the Takapuna on Sunday.

Dr. Palmer was a passenger from New Plymouth by the Takapuna on Sunday. Miss W. Adair, of Gisborne, has gone on a visit to England. Miss Ella Burke (Waipukarau) is at present on a visit to Gisborne. She is staying with Mrs Richard Sherratt. Miss 11. Sherratt, who has been spending some time iu Hawke's Bay and Featherston, has returned to Gisborne Mr Philip Kenway has left Gisborne for England, where he intends to stay for an indefinite time.

Miss Madge Rice returned to Auckland last week, after a visit of three months to Christchurch.

Mrs Moncktou, who lias been spending a few weeks with her son in Gisborne, has returned to her home iu Featherston.

Miss Winter, who has been visiting Colonel and Mrs Winter (Gisborne), has left for Christchurch, en route for Tasmania.

Dr. and Mrs. A. Osborne Knight and family left Auckland last Tuesday for Wellington, to join the Atheni? at that port for England.

Mr R. Hobbs, of Ponsonby. Auckland, left on Monday for Australia. He intends to visit Sydney, Melbourne, and Adelaide before his return.

Miss Ethel Atkinson, who has been seriously ill iu Johannesburg, has now quite recovered, and is returning to Auckland by the s.s. Corintbie, which left Capetown on March 2D. Miss Sylvia Thorpe, Fairfax road, Epsom, left Auckland last Monday er. route to Germany, where she is going to pay an extended visit to her sister, Mrs. Penseler.

Mr. G. H. Barnes, manager for the “Midnight Wedding” Company, which opens at His Majesty’s Theatre on Monday nexL arrived by the Takapuna on Sunday to make the preliminary arrangements.

Mr .and Mrs. W. B. Ellerby. of Walton (late of Canterbury), left for England and the Continent of Europe on Monday. They expect to be away about six or eight months. Mrs. Phillips, wife of Dr. Phillips, left with her two children for Sydney on Mon day last on her return to Upington (Cape Colony), after a few months’ visit to her parents, Mr. and Mrs. V. E. Rice, in Auckland.

Miss Nora Walker, Epsom, left last Sunday for Wanganui, where she has gone to stay with Mrs. Alt'. Bayly ana other friends. She will most probably visit Wellington before returning to Auckland.

Mr. J. J. Taine, sen., of Auckland, has taken Mr. Saxby’s residence at Blull Hill, Napier, for the winter months. He is accompanied by his granddaughter, Miss Muriel Darling, of Wellington. Mr. and Mrs. Saxby intend to spend th? win ter in Sydney.

Miss Ewen, who has been elected a member of the South Hautapu Drainage Board, is probably the first lady that has been elected to such a post"t,ion in New Zealand. Miss Ewen has considerable interest in the land affected by the Board, and, it is stated, possesses qualifications which should make her an excellent member of the Board.

IL Toy, for many years connected with the literary and sub-editorial staffs of the “New Zealand Herald,’’ who left last week to take up his residence in Wailii, will be much missed by his many Auckland friends. 1-or seven years Mr Toy has been secretary of the Amateur Sports Club, and as an appreciation of his valuable services to that institution members of the club met at the Metropolitan Hotel on April IS and presented Mr Toy with a handsome office desk, with roller top. On April 17 Mr Toy was entertained at a smoke social by members of the Mount Eden Bowling Club, who presented him with a case of handsome silver-mounted pipes.
