AUCKLAND PROVINCE.

Mr. and Mrs. F. Sheriff, of Gisborne, leave for a trip to England next month. ■ Miss Beatson, of Napier, is the guest iof Mis. J. Bright, Gisborne. Mr. and Mrs. AV. Tombleson (Gisborne) have left on a visit to Australia. Mrs. Skeet, of Cambridge, is staying at Te Aroha. Mrs. C. Hunter, of Cambridge, is at present visiting at Te Arolia. AIT. and Mrs. F. I’alairet, who have been visiting Auckland and Rotorua, are back in Gisborne. Captain Lyons. Montgomery, has returned to Cambridge from his three months’ trip to South Africa. Miss Pasley, who has been staying with Mrs. Gilbert Pasley, in Gisborne, has returned to Nelson. Misses Effie and Kathleen Willis have returned to Cambridge, after a fortnight’s visit to Auckland. Mrs Power, Parnell, has been visiting her daughter, Mrs Laery, of Featherston, but has now returned. Miss Al. Towle. Epsom, who has been in Wellington for several months, returned to Auckland last Sunday. The Misses AA'inks (Parnell) went to Svduev last Monday by the steamer Mokoia. ’

Air. and Airs. H. Horton left for Sydney, en route to England, by the Wimmera last week.

Aliss AL Frater (Parnell) has been staying with Aliss Wells, of “ Oakleigh,” Cambridge, on her way home from Rotorua.

Mrs. A. B. Herrold and Aliss Marchant. of Parnell, have returned home from Cambridge, where they have been staying with Aliss Wright of Loloma.

Mr. and Airs. Bockett have returned to Cambridge after visiting Tauranga and Rotorua, where the former was relieving in the Bank of New Zealand.

Mrs Booth (Hawera) and Misses Bhuttleworth and Draper (Remuera) left by the Alokoia on Monday on a trip to Sydney and the Islands. Dr. A. O. Knight and family left Auckland last Monday for the South, Connecting at Wellington with the Athenic for London.

Miss Flossie Quinn left Auckland for Sydney on Alonday, under engagement to Mr. ,T. C. Williamson, in response to a Cable received this week.

Mr. George Gow. superintending engineer of the Northern S.S. Co., accompanied by Mrs. and Alins Gow, left on a holiday visit to Te Arolia and the Hot Lakes district on Saturday last.

Out uf candidates numbering nearly 5090 who sat for the recent Civil Service examination, Miss N. Lawry, pupilteacher, attached to the Huntly District School, obtained murks sufficient to pluce her among the first half-dozen. Quite a number of Cambridge people have visited Rotorua during the Easter holidays, amongst the number being Airs. Braithwaite and Miss Reid, Airs. .1. Martyn, Mrs. A. Bell, Airs. A. Stone, Miss Clark. Alisscs Skeet.

Among Auckland candidates who have successfully passed the University examination for electrical engineering thereby entitling him to place the letters B.E. Elect, after his name, is Henri L. Benjamin, younger son of Air Lionel N Benjamin of Auckland.

Mr. R. Angus, New Zealand manager for Mesrs. Thos. Cook and Son, left last week via Main Trunk Railway, for Wellington and Christchurch, on a business visit, and, after the closing of the Exhibition, he returns via Otira and Buller Gorge a AVest Coast route.

Miss K. Alorton, eldest daughter of Mr. Wm. Alorton, sen., of Onehunga, left by the s.s. Rotoiti last week, for Wellington, en route to the Vnited Kingdom and Germany. Aliss Alorton intends studying music in Germany. There was a large number of her friends on the wharf to bid her farewell.

Mr Gian. Waymouth, of Waihi, leaves Auckland this week for Wellington, en route for England, where he will spend some time visiting his relations. Before leaving the gold mining centre he was the recipient of several presentations, including a silver cigarette ease and holder from the staff of the melting-house, Waihi G.M. Company.

Mr. W. H. Toy, who for the past fifteen years has been connected with the literary and sub-editorial staff's of the “ New Zealand Herald,” was presented last week by his colleagues with a travelling bag and silver cigarette-case on the eve of his departure from the city to take up his residence in Waihi. Air. W. S. Douglas, editor of the “ Herald,” in making the presentation, referred in glowing terms to the high esteem in which Air. Toy was held as a man and a journalist by all who knew him. Mr. Toy suitably replied.
