THE CANTERBURY JOCKEY CLUB’S AUTUMN MEETING
opened on Master Monday. The racing was excellent, but from a lady’s point of view the day was disappointing, the weather being showery and the wind cold. Consequently the pretty dresses were for the greater part of the day hidden under long race eoats and warm wraps. A SMALL BRIDGE PARTY. was given by Airs Boyle at Lower Riccarton. The guests were Afrs Davidson, Airs ■ and Miss Pitman, Airs Wigram, Aliss Covvlishaw, Airs Pyne, Mrs and Aliss Kettle, Aliss Lee, Airs T. Cowlishaw, Airs Wardrop, Aliss Reeves, Airs Berwick, and Aliss Murray-Aynsley.. AT AN HOME given by Airs 4’roup, “Merivale,” on Monday evening in honour of Miss Kippenberger, whose marriage to Air Beauchamp will shortly take place. A large number of guests were present, and a very pleasant evening was spent. Mneh amusement was caused by an alvertisenient competition. The prize, a silver toilet box, was won by Miss Isabel Guthrie, and the gentlemen’s prize, a cigar ease, by Air L. Wood. GOLF. The Eastern tournament took place, on the Shirley links last Wednesday and Thursday. There were a large number of entries from the Southern clubs and from Australia. The ehampionship cup, presented by the eaptain. Mrs Pitman, was won by Miss Mort, of Sydney, who also won the medal handicap. She was presented with a handsome trophy, a small travelling clock. Aliss N. Campbell, as runner-up, reoeired a sil-ver-mounted blotter. The bogey matefl was won by Aliss Gould, of Oamam, and another handicap match was won by Aliss Lee (Bathurst), Miss Campbell and Miss Carter won the bogey four-
aomes.
