Dear Bee, August 8. THE COLLEGE RIFLES' DANCE, which took place in the Art Gallery on Friday, was a great success. The rooms were beautifully decorated with flags, and hanging baskets of native lycopodium. Fox’s Band supplied the music. A DANCE was given by Miss Alorclaml on Monday evening at the Art Gallery, in honour of the Otago High School footballers, who have been playing a Christ’s College team. A large number of juveniles were present. Among the grownups were Air and Airs Guy Pascoe, Captain ami Airs Day, Dr. and Airs Palmer. Air and Mrs G. Harris, Aliss Rutherford, Aliss Alathias, the Alisses Alorton, Prins, Way, Barker, and several others.

MRS W. IRVING GAVE A BRIDGE PARTY ou Friday evening at her residence, Ar-niugh-street. Among those preseat were Dr, Alice Moorhouse, Mrs Anderson. Miss Anderson. Mrs Stronach, Miss < ook. Miss Deveuish-Mears, Miss Prins, Miss Izard, Miss Peters, and Miss Sanders. The prize, a very pretty handkerchief sachet, hand-painted, was won by Miss Cook. AN AFTERNOON PARTY was given on Tuesday by Mrs Beckett, of Upper Riccarton, in honour of Miss Denniston, who is shortly to be married. A picture competition was’won by Miss 1). Moore, the prize being a crystal inkstand and silver pen. Mrs Beckett wore a pretty gown of pale grey voile and white lace. Mrs Withnall, had a blaek silk toilette. Others present were Mrs Murray-Aynsley, Mrs Henry Cotterill, Mrs Hennah, Mrs J. D. Hali, Mrs Morton, Mrs G. Harris. Mrs Gerard. Mrs Sloman. Mrs W. Hall, the Misses Denniston. Moore, Campbell, Turton. Moreland. Thomas, Cotterill. Mills, Fitzgerald (Wellington). Gerard, Harley, Todhunter, Reeves, Poulton, and Izard. THE JUVENILE BAZAAR, which was held in King Edward Barracks on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, was an unqualified success. It is stated that the profit, a sum of £993, will be handed over to Nurse Maude for her consumption camp. AT A SMALL DANCE given by Miss Cox on Saturday evening at “Te Whare,” Hereford-street, those present included Mrs Percy Cox, Mrs Williams, Mrs Holderness, the Misses Bridges, Barker. Prins, Williams, Thompson. Robinson, Hammer, and Meares, Messrs. Bridges. Williams. Aitken, Anderson, Fryer. Deacon, Moorhouse, Litchfield, and Dixon. GOLF. Th '• prizes presented by Mrs Wigram for 11. a Hagley Park Golf Club were won by Miss Reeves in the first grade, and Mrs Geo. Stead in the second. Afternoon tea was provided by Mrs Wigram. Amongst those on the links were Mrs Archer. Mrs Robinson, Mrs Blunt. Mrs Stead. Mrs Pyne, Mrs Kettle, Mrs Denniston. Mrs Vernon, and the Misses Rutherford, Stead, Kettle, Symes, Boyle, and Harley. On Monday the final rounds for the local championship of the Ladies’ Golt Club were played off, with the result that Miss Wilson beat Miss Campbell in the first grade, and Mrs. Robinson beat Airs. Kettle in the second grade. Miss Wilson and Mrs. Robinson, therefore, hold the ehamiponships for the year. A MUSICAL EVENING was given on Thursday by Dr. Alice Moorhouse. The singers were Mrs. Gower Burns. Colonel Bauchop, and Mr. W. Day, and Mr. Hurst (England) delighted everyone with his pianoforte playing. Amongst the guests were: Dr. and Mrs. Irving, Mrs. and Miss Deans, Mr. and Mrs. Gower Burns, Miss Symes, ami Mr. ami Mrs. Day. THE ANNUAL FOOTBALL MATCH, Christ’s College versus the Boys’ High School, was played on the College ground on Wednesday, and resulted in a win for High School. Although the ground was wet and the weather cold and gloomy, there was a very good attendance of ladies. Airs. Bevan-Brown wore a navy blue costume, with hat to match; Aliss Aloreland. a pretty gown of white cloth, and white toque; Aliss Anderson, grey tweed coat ami skirt, white toque; Aliss D. Anderson, green coat and skirt, green toque; Aliss Guthrie, violet cloth skirt, sealskin coat, pretty hat, with cream roses; Airs. Hay. navy blue eoat and skirt, blue toque to match; Aliss Bassett, dark grey tailor-made costume, black and white toque; Airs. George Rhodes, blue cloth costume, handsome fur coat, brown toque: Miss Dennistbn, navy blue costume, white hat; Aliss Bathgate (Dunedin), brown dress, red toque; Aliss AHUs, grey tweed costume, violet toque; Mrs. Deans, black skirt, sealskin eoat. black toque; Miss Deans, grey coat and skirt, white hat; Airs.
