THE WORLD OF FASHION
(By
MARGUERITE.)
Foil THE COMING SEASON. corselet skirts and lingerie SHIRTS. It is prophesied, too, that high corselet skirts will Im* worn almost universally with lingerie shirts, blouses, and slips in place of the erstwhile popular pleated skirt with deep l>elt. These skirt m commence just below the bust, ami in many of the newest French models of fine cloth, voile, or cashmere
they are gathered closely from the top to a little below the waist, except in the extreme front where a couple of wide perpendicular straps are introduced, usually bordered with narrow braid on either side and punctuated with buttons. The top of the skirt is cut into small scallops edged with fancy braid, a double scalloped trimming of braid to correspond being applied about five inches from the bottom of the skirt.
TORTOISESHELL BROWN FOR WEAR. Brown is to be the favourite colour this season. The shade chosen is a rich golden brown resembling nothing so much as the colour on the wings of a tortoiseshell butterfly, and this will be popular both for day and evening wear, tulle ball gowns in dark bronze, as well as deep purple and ultra-marine being quite an established fact An example
of this craze was shown in the case of a lovely toilette made in the workrooms of a great Paris dressmaker, the gown being of u copper beech” tulle fashioned with a triple skirt, each tier of which was bordered with a fringe of copjier beads, while a great cluster of hydrangeas—pink, pale blue, and mauve—were caught in the front of the gown with a mammoth Eastern buckle of burnished copper.
