We are having very cold, unsettled weather, winter seems to be upon us all too soon—the tine autumn we hoped for, after the wet summer, has not come off, and as the weather promises now, we may look forward to a long severe winter. Saturday was not a pleasant day for tennis or croquet, nevertheless several enthusiasts played all afternoon. Mrs H. S. Fitzherbert and Mrs Nannestad provided most tempting afternoon tea. Mrs Fitzherbert was wearing a navy blue, with narrow white stripe, tai-lor-made costume, stylish hat of navy blue straw with navy wings and touch of green ribbon. Miss Fitzherbert,' embroidered white muslin, sailor hat; Miss Sybil Fitzherbert, pale grey muslin with narrow Valenciennes laee edging, white laee hat; Mrs Nannestad, black coat and skirt, cream laee vest, cream and pale bhte straw hat; Miss Nannestad, dark red skirt, tussore silk blouse,. cream hat with red velvet trimming; Mrs S. Fitzherbert (Feilding) navy coat and skirt, white laee hat with touch of pale blue, white fur and muff; Mrs Tripe, navy coat and skirt, white cloth collar, cream hat with pale yellow roses; Mrs Bendall, white linen skirt, white muslin blouse, sailor hat: Mrs Millton, Mrs Randolph, Mrs Bell. THfc MANAWATU RACING CLUB were most unfortunate in the weather for the first day.of the Autumn Meeting. Rain commenced to fall during.the previous night, and continued until between 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. th# following afternoon, materially affecting the attendance and making things unpleasant generally. Foster Pratt, dark green and velvet cheek eoat and skirt, coat made with deep basque, violet velvet collar, brown and cream beaver toque with heliotrope silk and brown wing; Mrs Fitzherbert, brown cloth coat and skirt, brown velvet collar and cuffs with eream lace ornaments, brown straw hat, with ribbon, yellow- flowers and foliage; Miss Fitzhierbert, dark skirt, long navy’ blue coat. With gilt buttons and buckle, navy hat with touches of brighter shade of blue, and navy quills; Miss Porter, dark skirt, long grey coat, and scarlet hat with niching of silk; Miss O’Brien, in brown, fawn felt hat with brown quills; Mjs R. S. Abraham, dark brown Russian coat and skirt, navy straw toque with blue wings; Miss Abraham, dark skirt, long blue coat, scarlet hat with scarlet quills : Miss Ethel Abraham. in eream, cream straw hat with pale blue flowers; Mrs J.
