On ,Saturday last Mrs Lloyd organised a KITCHEN TEA at the Mjtnawatu Tea Rooms for the purpose-.of helping to furnish Miss Wilkitchen in connection with her tea rooms. aftermwn proved dreary and wet, nevertheless, ignoring the eletSentsjand jnudJv jstate of the streets, . th«se present .spent a most enjoyable, they had once reached their destination. Among others present I noticed Mrs F. Riddiford in. a black and white check costume. bands of blaek on skirt, black hat with white ospreys: Mrs R. S. Abraham in brown, navy blue hat with white wing: Mrs Brown, in black, blaek velvet bonnet with blaek tip and white tulle strings: Mrs Stowe, blaek canvas voile, black picture hat with large blaek feather: Mrs Fitzherbert, navy blue with narrow white stripe cloth eoat and skirt, navy blue hat with glace bows; Mrs Maeintyre. grey tweed, blaek hat; Mrs C. J. Monro, in navy blue, blue hat with blue ribbon : Mrs J. R. Pratt, small dark green and violet check tweed costume. violet velvet collar, green strawhat with tulle and flowers: Mrs Guy. cornflower blue coat and skirt, burnt straw hat with pink roses and white osprey: Mrs C, Harden, navy blue coat and skirt, cream hat with scarlet flowers; Mrs Holmes, grey coat- and skirt, brown hat with brown-wing; Mrs W. Keeling, brown Eton costume, brown velvet collar, cream and green fancystraw hat with pink and crimson roses; Mrs J. M. Johnston, black voile, navy blue hat: Mrs F. Cooke, black .and white cheek, burnt straw hat with black trimming; Mrs Bendall. in pale grey, white cloth collar, white hat w it'lß-black velvet -and blaek wings; Mrs .Gplbeck, in pale green linen with fawn linen facing.-, cream hat with pink and green tulle: Mrs J. Pascat. fawn tweed, scarlet hat; Miss- McLennan;- grey' s Eton- costume, white fat-mgs. blaek eheniHe hat with blaek feather: Miss Elsie ’ McLennan, grey -ar- coat and skirt,-navy- strawhat with white wing; Miss- Frances Eraser, brown skirt, three-quarter fawn coati brown and cream hat; Mrs' Baker, Mrs Slack. Mrs J. Strang, and others. * On WedneSflay evening Mrs Moeller. Bioa<l-street, entertained a few friends with ’ - BRIDGE AND'OTHER GAMES. Those present'" included Mr and Mrs Armstrong. Mr and* Mrs Reed. Mr ami Mrs Haynes. Miss Nannestad, Mi-s Iteed. Miss Mow lent, Mtj&rt; Ross, and Lux ford.
On Thursday afternoon the Misses Alys and Cushla Riddiford entertained the Craven College girls and several old girls to AFTERNOON TEA at their mother's, residence. “Te Marae.” Church-street; The Misses Fraser. Dalrymple. Hewitt, N. Riddiford. Warburton, and Margaret Waldegrave were among the older girls present. LAWN TENNIS has not been so brisk this last week, the weather being anything but suitable. During the last few days I have noticed the following players on the lawn-, some playing tennis, others croquet : Mesdames Bell. Tripe. Aicken. Fitzherbert. Pickett, Thompson. Wilson. Messrs. Fitzherbert. Bell, Reed, Lord, Nannestad, Wilson. F. Waldegrave, Porter, Messrs. Harden. Smith. Spencer. Vaughan. Collins, Moodie, Reed, Bell, Wilson. Barraud, Waldegrave (2), Dr. Putnam. The final of the men's handicap doubles was played on Thursday afternoon between Mr Harden and Dr. Putnam against Messrs. Smith and Barraud. all starting from scratch. The former won after a good game, the score being fl—s, 5—6. Miss Fitzherbert had a few girl friends for tennis at her mother's residence. “Hokowhitu." on Thursday. Misses Abraham (2), O'Brien. Lord, and Porter were those playing. THE SHERIDAN COMPANY is playing a short season at the Opera House. Last night they staged "The Earl and the Girl" to a crowded house. Among the audience were Mr and Mrs Inder. Mr and Mrs Armstrong, Mr and Mrs Guy. Mrs and the Misses Riddiford. Misses "Park, Mrs F. S. Mcßae, Miss Hankins. Miss Margaret Waldegrave. Mrs Drury. Miss Smith, Miss Bell. Miss Moeller, Miss Nannestad, Miss Dolly Wilson. Miss E. Abraham, Messrs. Connell, Sira, Bond. Waldegrave.
