Dear Bee, “ March 3. *" St. Patrick’s Day was quiet and un, eventful here—nothing more exciting than the usual tennis and croquet. The day being fine there was a large attendance of members at .the local courts. Mrs W. Keeling and Mrs F. E. Watson were the hostesses. Mrs Keeling looked dainty in a white and pale blue floral mnslin, Valenciennes lace edging the frills, fancy straw hat with pink and crimson roses; Mrs Watson, blaek coat and skirt, white blouse, burnt straw hat with tangerine roses; Miss Winnie Watson, black skirt, cream blouse, sailor hat. Others present were Mesdames Fitzherbert. Randolph, Bagnall, Bendall. Pickett, Thompson, Wilson. Barnir-oat, McKniglit, Bell, Tripe, A. N. Gibbons, H. Gibbons, Hitehings, Eliot, Aicken, Misses Nannestad, Porter (2), Bell (3), Randolph (2), Waldegrave (2), Wilson, Reed, Fitzherbert (3), Lord. Robinson |2), Hankins, Wylds, Keeling, Messrs Keeling (2), Thompson, Pickett, McLean, Bell, Spencer, Barraud, Wilson (2); Warburton, Waldegrave (2), Reed, Patterson, Watson, Moodie, Downes, Smith, Vaughan, Sim, Collins, Pirani. On Friday evening, Mrs Coombs, Terrace End., entertained friends to BRIDGE. Among the players were Mrs and Miss Coo-nibs. Mr and Mrs Nannestad, Mrs Shelson. Miss Moeller. Messrs Armstrong, Harman, Rope and others. On Wednesday afternoon the lady members of the golf club entertained MRS ALAN STRANG AND MRS LIONEL ABRAHAM, who are both leaving for England immediately, on the Hokowhitu golf links. Putting and approaching competitions were held, Miss Margaret Waldegrave ' arid Miss Slack proving the winners. Miss Waldegrave was presented with a silver-baeked clothes

brush, and Miss Slack with a silvermounted comb. -Afternoon tea" was provided by -the lady -members of the <kib. Mrs anil ■ the Misses Abraham, Mrs and Miss Fitzherbert, Mrs C. E. Waldegrave and Miss Margaret Waldegrave, Mrs J. Strang, Mrs Porritt-, Miss Warburton, Miss Hankins, Mrs Mellsop, Mrs Monro, Mrs Tripe. MrsFreeth. Mrs H. Waldegrave and Miss Frances Waldegrave, Mrs Loughnan. the Misses McLennan, Mrs F. S, Mcßae. Miss Bell, Mrs Bendall, Mrs Holmes. Mrs Millton, Miss Lord, Mrs Innes, Mrs J. Pascal, Mrs Greig, Mrs and Miss Hewitt, Mrs Riddiford, and many others were present, Mrs E. Armstrong, Broad-street, had A SMALL EVENING PARTY on Wednesday. Bridge was played i" the dining-room, while more frivolous games were played in the drawingroom. Among the guests were Mrs and Miss Coombs, Mrs and Miss Nannestad, Mr and Mrs Moeller, Miss Kirby (New Plymouth), Messrs Haynes (2), Moeller, Greenawav, Beale, Paul. Mrs C. E. Waldegrave had a most successful BREAK-MAKING PARTY on Thursday afternoon. Contrary to the usual display of eroquet on such occasions, several ladies made splendid breaks. Mrs Tripe did 2C loops in her first attempt, and Miss Nannestad 23. Tn the second, Mrs Tripe made 9, and Miss Nannestad 12, that being 35 ea-cb for the two trials. In the play off Mrs Tripe won. and received a silver-mount-ed toilet bottle. Miss Nannestad got a pretty- silver photo frame as second prize. Mrs Mellsop with a score of Hi loops was third, and won a green glass silver-mounted specimen glass. Afternoon tea was served in the diningroom, the table being tastefully arranged with verbenas of various colours.'
