THE LEYS INSTITUTE.

VAId ABLE ADDITIONS TO THE LIBRARY. Tin* following report of the librarian was submitted last week at the Auckland City Council meeting by the committee of the Beys institute:- “ I beg to report the following donations for the Institute since the last meeting of the committee, November 24, 1905: IL Brett, 2 vols. ( ‘Spires and 'lowers of England"); R. Fenwick. 2 vols. (“Scotland Industrial Souvenir’’ and “New York Subway"); J. Lawson, (hi vols. (Institute of Civil Engineers); P. Lawson. 53 vols. (Institute of Mechanical Engineers) : T. W. Leys. 445 vols. (general literature) ; ( ity Librarian. 1 vol. (Catalogue l Auckland Free* Library); N.Z. Government, 1 vol. (statistics) : S. E. G. Smith, (5 Vols. (Goethe’s works). “Tim demation of Mr Leys includes 83 veils, of the 4 very latest technical works. 1904 5. also 30 vols. of the American Schoeil of Correspondence* on technical subjects. This valuable* addition to the library is very much appreciated by numbers of the* readers, some of the books being in constant use. Lists were sent to the- Technical School ami all branches of trades, the* result being many inquiries for the books by visitors to the Institute, Included in the* donation are 59 veils, of Curtis' Botanical Magazine, 1787-1832, a very rare* and costly work. A very handsome* bookcast*, with glass front, has been added by the* Leys Trustees.- \. M. Williams. Librarian.” A vote of thanks was passeel to the donor- bv the* Council.
