PALMERSTON NORTH.

Dear Bee, December 1. The weather was threatening and boisterous for the opening of the PALMERSTON TENNIS AND CROQUET CLUB. A raging wind has been blowing hern for over a week, and shows no sign of exhaustion. A large number of members and visitors were present on Saturday afternoon, and enjoyed a pleasant cup of lea and cakes, provided by the lady members of the club. Several enthusiasts made an effort to play tennis, but it was only a pretence. Tim croquet players had some good games, as the wind does not effect that game as it iloos tennis. Mrs \V. Harden was wearing a green Russian costume, blaek chiffon hat with tips; Mrs C. Warburton, Wylds, Spencer, Vaughan, Smith, Newton, T’hynue, Bell and others were present. Mrs E. J. Armstrong, Broad-street, entertained a few friends TO BRIDGE last Friday evening. Those present included Ml anil Mis Watson, Mrs Belt and Mr E. Bell, Mrs Tripe, Mr and Mrs Heed. Mrs Nanuestad, Miss Moeller. Wednesday, the first day of the Fill I DING RACES was fine in the forenoon, but the weather, with its usual treachery, changed at mid day, and was cold and wet for the remainder of the day. Large numbers went from Palmerston, some, driving and others in the excursion train. Mr and Mrs Bell, Mr and Mrs Millton, Mr ami Mrs Bennett, Mrs and Miss Fitz,Herbert, Mrs 'Tripe, Mrs and Miss Hankins were among others who went.
