Dear Bee October 13. THE ORCHESTRAL SOCIETY gave the second concert of the season at the Opera House on Thursday. The concert was quite as successful as usual. and the different items were thoroughly enjoyed by the large audience present. Airs Johnson, of Wanganui, played two harp solos. The harp is an instrument rarely heard in Palmerston, and consequently these items were a great treat. Mrs Johnston's first solo was “Impromptu” (Hasselman’s), and later she played “I'n Longe” (Obertheur). On both occasions she had to respond to decided encores). Mrs C. Louissori,’ of Palmerston, sang “Stars Love the Might” (Mattei), and as an encore “Oh, How Delightful.” The other soloist was Mr Arthur Bennett," his first number being “Nelson’s Gone a-Sailing,” and his second “The Trumpeter.” Mrs Johnston was wearing white satin and white chiffon, and Airs Louisson pale blue silk, with frills of white chiffon on skirt and bodice, spray of pale blue Howers. The finals for the Ladies' Bogey Competition were played on the HOKOAVHITU LINKS on AVednesday afternoon. In the Senior Division Airs Monro (7), four down, was the winner. Airs Alellsop (8), six down, came second. Mrs Lionel Abraham (scr.), seven down, was third. Airs Freeth. having two wins to her credit, wins the trophy right out. In .the Junior Competition Mrs Leifert (16), five down, was first. Airs Millton (10), eight down, second. Airs W arburton (10), eleven down, third. Miss Fitzherbert. with three wins to her credit, takes the trophy. On Thursday a team of seven ladies journeyed to Dannevirke and played a match with a local team.
