Bear Bee, September 23. THE TARANAKI WARDS held their annual social in the Freemasons’ Hall last Wednesday evening, and it was very enjoyable. The weather was lovely and cold, just the thing for dancing. The hall was tastefully arranged with Hags and greenery, and the scarlet uniforms made an effective contrast with the more sombre tinted dresses of the ladies. Amongst those present were: Mrs T. Mills, black silk and cream lace, scarlet opera coat; Mrs F. Messenger. |>ink sal in, deeolletage softly finished with chiffon; Miss Messenger looketl extremely well in black satin with yellow silk sash ami roses on corsage: Miss Brett, white tucked and insert ioned silk blouse, dark •skirt; Miss Jackson, cream voile, relieved with yellow Howers; Miss MeAlluni looked well in pale green, cream satin Empire belt; Misses J. and H. MeAllum. green silk blouses, dark skirts; Miss Crawford, black voile with deep frill edged with satin belie ribbou. scarlet roses on decolletage; Miss R. Crawford, pale pink muslin, trimmed with chiffon frills; Miss Kelly, black silk, trimmed with satin ribbon and jet; Miss 0. Kelly, a dainty white shirred and insert ioned silk; Miss Nicholson (Patea)
looked handsome in a white (m ke.l ind frilled silk; Miss (Ollis, white -ilk House, dark skirt; Mis- K. Collis, white muslin; Miss Skinner, white satin, trimmed with yellow vhifTon rosettes: Miss Ryan, white silk ami lace b’ouse, dark skirt. Amongst the gentlemen were Messrs Mills, Messenger, Okey. Markey, Harvey, Allen, I Vansan, Bell, Weston, Waters, Nixon. laist Thursday evening, at ihe Troea* dero, the Taranaki Rilles held their ANNUAL DINNER, and those present included Colonel Ellis, Lieutenant-Colonel Okey. Chupla in-Major Evans, Alajor Dempsey. Adjutant Captain Weston, Quartermaster Captain Cock, Messi* .lames Paul, Doekrill, r. T. Bellringer. The ehair was occupied by Captain Okey. The usual toasts were proposed and drunk. k
