This photograph was taken from the New Zealand Shipping Co.’s new building’s in Quay-street on September 21st, ami on the day in question the amount <> the capital represented was. roughly speaking, about £630,000. Our illustration includes shipping at Queen Street Wharf and Quay Street Jetty, the aggregate berth on the righthand side of Queen Street Wharf is the Drayton Grange (6.953 tons). The Haversham Grange (7.505 tons) is berthed at the outer tee on the | tons occupies the innermost berth. The smaller jetties on the right side of the Queen Street Wharf are occupied by coastal vessels. The small Brigantine is ern Co.’s steamers. The warship Prometli

Estimating the average cost of construction at about t'ls per ton, it will be seen that ate tonnage at these wharves being about 38.000. The mail steamer Ventura (6,000 tons) is berthed at Quay Street Jetty. The vessel occupying the outer tie left, and occupying the inside berth at the same tee is the Kent (5.400 tons). The next steamer is the ludradevi (5,683 tons), and tin* s.s. Briez line! (5,000 e is the Defiance (200 tons). Included in the boats occupying other berths were the s.s Tarawera (2,000 tons), the barquentine Silver ( loud (200) and the Northnet heus (2,130 tons) was in Calliope Dock.
