AUCKLAND PROVINCE. Mr. Grierson (Parnell) has been visiting Rotorua, ami staying at "Kia Ora.” Mr. and Mrs. Gaw (Auckland) arc visiting Rotorua at present. Mrs. St. Paul (.Auckland) has gone to Rotorua for a holiday. The Rev. Canon Mac-Murray went South on Monday by the Takapuna. Miss M. Wallis (Gisborne) has gone for a trip to Napier. Mr. H. P. Barry arrived in Waihi last week, and was welcomed by the Mayor. Miss Fleming, Gisborne, has gone for a trip to Wellington. Mr E. W. Marriner. of the Wellington Post Office, is on a visit to Auckland. Mr J. J. O’Brien was a passenger by the Rarawa last week to New Plymouth. Misses IT. and Reynolds (Gisborne) have returned from a visit to Hawke’s Bay. Mr 11. E. Partridge, of the firm of H. E. Partridge and t 0., went South by the Rarawa last week. Mr T. A. Moresby has been elected Sy-nodsman for St. Paul's Church district, Paeroa, for the ensuing year. Mr. and Mrs. Bowman, of Papatoitoi, have been staying at Lake House, Rotorua. Mr. Jarvis and the Misses Findlay, of Mount Eden, are staying at "The Bungalow,” Rotorua. Mrs. T. Walker has returned to Rotorua after a holiday spent in Auckland and the Waikato. Tine Misses Rathbone (Waikato) have been staying in Rotorua for some weeks. Mrs Lorie, the Ladies’ Mile, Remuera, is paying a visit to her family in Dunedin. Mrs Harold Thomson, who has been on a short visit to Auckland, returned home to Inglewood last week. Mr. Justice Edwards went to Gisborne on Tuesday by the Mokoia to take the civil session of the Supreme Court there. Mr. and Mrs. W. Prole Harris .and family have left Rotorua for Maketu, where they intend to reside. Miss N. Heath, who has been staying with Mrs. A. W. Rees (Gisborne), has returned to Wellington. Mrs F. B. Winstonc, who has been on a trip to the Islands, returned to Auckland on Sunday by the Sydney steamer. Mrs Craeroft-Wilson (Christchurch) is in Auckland on a visit, and is at present staying with Mrs W. B. A. Morrison, “Wapiti.” Mr. C. E. Button and his wife, who have been visiting Great Britain for the past eighteen months, arrived in Auckland by the Mokoia. Mr. R. W. Brown, of Whangarei, has been appointed to the position of Government Fire Insurance agent at Whangarei. Mr D. U. Mclntosh, who succeeded Mr 0. H. Biss as District Railway Engineer on the Auckland section, arrived in Auckland last week. The Rev. Baillie, who resides in Fiji, has just paid the Hot Lakes district a visit. While in Rotorua he stayed at "Bathgate House.”

Mr and Mrs George* Bloomii Id have returned from their lengthy \ isit to Sydney. Miss Davie (Melbourne) is also with them. She has been on a visit to Auckland to escape the hot Miss Mabel Dawson, of Auckland, left for Sydney on route to Melbourne on Monday on a visit to her uncle, Mr G. Dawson. Mr. Charles Grey, of Grey & Menzies, Limited, has resigned the position of chairmanship of directors in that linn, and Air. Roliert Menzies succeeds him. Air. Grey intends to visit Euiope shortly. Dr. A. O. Knight, Airs Knight, and Aliss Knight. Ponsonby, returned to Auckland on Sunday by the Mokoia ‘from a very pleasant trip to the South Sea Islands and Sydney. Air and Airs G. Atari in. of Crossstreet. Auckland, will leave by next mail boat for London. Mr Martin .has not been in the best of health, and has been compelled to take this trip. Mr and Mrs Martin intend to stay away for twelve months. Mrs. AA 7 . Bloomfield and the Alisscs Al. and AV. Cotter and Miss Eileen Lewis. who went to Napier for the golf tournament, returned to Auckland last week after a very enjoyable time. Word has been received that Dr. Aubin, surgeon of the Thames Hospital, who is at present at Home, has gained the degree of AI.D. of London University, the examinations having taken place early in July. Airs. G. C. Forbes, who, for some time has been in Manila, where Mr. Forbes has an appointment in the Electric Tramways Company, returned to Auckland last Sunday on a visit io her mother, Airs. Cashel, Wynyaid-street. An enjoyable smoke concert tendered to Mr. A. Menzies was held in the North Shore Rowing Club’s social room. During the evening (lie guest was presented with a travelling bag as a mark of esteem in which ho is held in the (listriot. Air. Menzies left for Napier on Tuesday. Air Schmidt, of the ‘‘Hemns” Studio, has received a letter from the < mint ess of Onslow, in which she expresses her high commendation of the photographs which were executed for her during tin* recent visit to Auckland. Her appreciation of the excellence of this studio’s work is evinced by the large mini her Iler Ladyship wishes sent by next mail. Mrs. Wheeler, Clandelauds, gave a pleasant book afternoon last week to a number of friends as a farewell to Mrs. Penny, who is leaving Hamilton (writes our correspondent). Airs. Penny will be greatly missed in musical circles. Mr. Penny, who has been in the Loan and Alercantile Office for son*.? time past, is about to proceed to South Africa.
