AUCKLAND MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS.
More interest was shown this year in the election of a Mayor and twelve Councillors for the city of Auckland than has been evinced in this contest for a very long whTe. No less than 24 candidates entered the field for the twelve vacancies on the Council, and three came forward to contest the Mayoral chair. The new Mayor is Mr Arthur M. Myers, who polled 5193 votes. Mr J. McLeod, who was runnerup. secured 3541, and the other candidate. Mr J. T. Julian, polled 1527. The successful Councillors were Messrs. C. D. Grey, 5977; J. Court, 5263; M. Casev. 5162; A. J. Entrican, 5127; L. J. Bagnall, 4910: C. J. Parr. 4717; IV. E. Hutchison, 4440; Geo. Knight, 4179; Robt- Farrell, 3884: A. K. Glover. 3711; H. M. Smeeton, 3569. The rejected candidates were Messrs. J. Patterson, 3008: J. Jamieson, 2898; J. Beeroft, 2790: G. Gregory. 2673: J. H. Hannan, 2373; R. W. St." Clair, 1583: J. Regan, 1776; J. Aggers. 1547; P. G. Andrew, 1374; R. F. Way. 1289: S. A. Tilly, 1272; E. A. Partington, 980.
