Dear Bee. April 17. The Mayor and Mayoress of Pieton gave A GRAND BALL on Tuesday' last, which was decidedly the best ball of the season. The hall was beautifully' decorated with lyeopodiums, Howers, mirrors, and flags. The stage was carpeted, and furnished as a drawing-room. The supportable, at the back of the stage, was most elegant, the decorations being yellow and. brown. Ou Thursday the Entertainers played for the benefit of young Hart, who lost l>oth eyes in a blasting accident. It is proposed to send him to Auckland to the Blind Institute. On Friday Mrs. Allen had a small PROGRESSIVE EUCHRE PARTY. She was assisted by her daughters, Mrs. A. N. Chaylon and the Misses Allen, also by Mr. A. Chaylon and Mr. L. Allen, of the Income Tax Department, Wellington, who was home on a visit. Euchre was played till eleven . Miss I. Rutherford won the first ladies’ prize, and Mrs. Riddell second. The chaplain, the Rev. Stock, won the first gentleman’s prize, and Engr. Lieut. Steam the second; much io their surprise, as neither had played euchre before. Others present were: —Dr. and Mrs. Redman, Mr. and Airs. Le Coeq, Mr. and Mrs. Stow. Mr. and Mrs. A. Scott, Airs. Riddell, Airs. C. Scott, After supper dances and games caused considerable fun and amusement A SHOOTING COMPETITION. was held on Saturday at the Waikawa Butts,between the officers of H.AI.s Challenger and the Waitohi Rifles. The match war-won by the visitors. Airs. Gillies, assited by her sifter Miss Speed, and her nieces, the Aliases Rutherford, provided afternon tea. •
